A Load of Crap
Some things about the human body are almost beyond belief, yet we never think about them at all. Did you know, for instance, that you will dump on average around 200grms of faeces every day of your life? Translated over an average life-span that is a huge heap od smelly compost weighing almost three tons.
This is partly down to the fact that an average consumption rate for a life-time in western world humans amounts to 50 TONS of food and 11,000 gallons of liquid. This liquid is processed by the truly awesome organ called the kidneys, which each filter holding one MILLION individual filters that clean as much as 2.2 pints of blood every single minute, 24/7 as long as you live.
As if that were not bad enough to contemplate, what about the knowledge that of the time you are blessed to live on this earth - if you enjoy an average span of years - a full NINETY days will be spent sitting down taking that crap.
Were you aware that the acid in your stomach is powerful enough to dissolve the metal zinc? Luckily, evolution fixed it so that cells lining the stomach are replaced far too quickly for these hyper-corrosive acidsto have any effect on them.
If you are a guy, and proud of your manhood, spare a thought for your testicles, because every day they produce enough individual sperm cells that any one man could, in only six months, in theory get nearly two BILLION women pregnant. Each woman will have as many as 500,000 eggs in her ovaries, but no more than 400 of these ever feature in menstrual cycles.
As easily as you might think your bones break, in fact there are every bit s solid as granite rock when it comes to weight-bearing - a 3in by 1in bone piece capable of supporting four times as much weight as an equivalent concrete block - nine TONS.
To get enough Oxygen around your body, the lungs conain in excess of three HUNDRED MILLION tiny blood vessels, which stretched ene-to-end would cover a staggering 1,500 MILES. The biggest organ by far is the skin, and if taken from the body and pegged out it would cover a 20 sq ft area.
Every living person has millions of skin cells replaced daily, and in the course of an average lifetime will shed up to 20 kilos of dead ones. 75% of household dust is made up of these dead cells. If you wanted to give as much use to your leg muscles as you do ,unconsciously, to the focusing muscles of the eyes, you would need to be walking 50 miles daily, because those eye muscles see use 100,000 times in any 24 hour period
So efficient is the human blood circulatory system that any one blood cell can make a complete circuit of it within a single minute, and so much heat is given off by the same human body in only a single half-hour that four pints of water could be brought to boiling with it.
Perhaps one of the most astounding facts is that a tiny piece of foreskin - taken when circumcising a baby - can in a laboratory environment within only 21 days grow skin enough in size to fully cover three basketball courts - a real boon to skin-grafting procedures.
You may never have been fully aware of just how much your body sheds in terms of cells and waste throughout your lifetime, but there is no doubt at all that this incredible biological machine which is the human body is is many ways - realistically speaking - a real load of crap.
