Apple sued after Time Capsule backup loses photos
In his suit filed in small claims court, Perminder Tung said that he purchased an Apple Time Capsule in June 2009 and used it to back up two MacBooks and an iPhone. After his Apple Time Capsule crashed he took it back to the Apple Store, hoping to get his data retrieved. However once in the store he was astonished to find out that there was nothing the company could do about it and that all information on the screen, was gone for good. He was also told at the store that the product had numerous issues related to defects in the design and the power supply. He was also further angered when he found out that “Apple” had issued a recall for the Time Capsule but his particular model was not on the recall list.
After trolling the web he later found out that there had been many other Time Capsule failures, and this in turn has spawned many online forums, creating a memorial register and dubious fix-it yourself videos.
Apple were not available for comment.
Authors note: This incident shows the importance of backing up your files many times. In-fact the more the better.
This is one time capsule that won’t be buried for future generations to glean information as to how we lived, as there is no data within it.
