The creators of the smash series Avatar: The Last Airbender have announced a sequel series. Will it be worthy? Check out Lucca's thoughts!
You heard me.
It was recently announced at this year's Comic-Con that people who created the award-winning popular series Avatar: The Last Airbender are currently in production of a spin-off "mini-series". Titled Avatar: The Legend of Korra, the series will revolve around the main character Korra, who just happens to be:
1) A female teenager who hails from the Southern Water Tribe
2) The current reincarnation of the Avatar
3) Proficient in every bending talent except one
It may just be me, but Korra sounds a bit Mary-Sueish. The creators have said she will be "hotheaded, independent, and ready to take on the world", and that there will be some "cheesy romance" going on in the series. The mini-series will take place in the same universe as Avatar: The Last Airbender, only 75 years later, after most of the original cast has died (this is not confirmed). Korra has mastered all the bending elements except air (sound slightly familiar?) and needs to learn airbending from a master Tenzin, who is conveniently the son of Aang and Katara (I'm betting there will be some romance between the two). Apparently Korra's character is partly inspired by Avatar Kyoshi from the original series.
Instead of having the main character(s) roam the world in an epic quest like before, the creators have said that they want Legend of Korra to stay put in a location called Republic City, a metropolis run by steam-powered technology (woo steampunk!), where such adventures will take place, including an anti-bending revolution (I'm personally interested in what that's going to be like). There are plenty of other unconfirmed rumors that you can check out for yourself at the Avatar Wiki, and since all Wikis are free to be edited by anyone feel free to go wild and add your own!
Am I going to watch this? Definitely. Will I like it? I cannot say for sure at this moment. Korra's design looks cool; it's a different take on the traditional garb that the Water Tribe people wear, and she ditched the robes and everything. My main fear is Korra being incredibly annoying. The fact is, I absolutely ADORE the original series. Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the few cartoons that can have a fantastic epic story without all the dick and fart jokes. I like it when Nickelodeon produces something that is intelligent and thought provoking while still being intended for kids. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised with The Legend of Korra. What do you guys think? Send me your thoughts!
Avatar: The Legend of Korra will debut in 2011 (the release month is unannounced as of now).

I am VERY excited! I dont know about the whole "Only staying in one place thing" though, but i expect it to be as good as the last... I'm so glad nick decided to have something instead of fanboy and chumchum for once. I do agree, i hope shes not annoying. But the thing i have to get use to is none of the other characters, i liked all of them from the last series (except for Katara :/) but its time to move on right? And we def need something to get are minds off the horrific The last airbender crap (m.night shamalan... Stay away! Stay y very far away!!) Oh, and i heard its not a mini series anymore, they stretched the amount of episodes YAY!
