Would any person, with a lifespan equivalent to an Elephants and a similarly large brain enjoy being humiliated daily through performing tricks?
Circus Cruelty?
Keeping animals in captivity is wrong, in my humble opinion, no matter how well they get cared for. Certain species may well be facing extinction, making their breeding in captivity a sensible approach, to some degree, but extinctions are a part of the natural order of things, and we do not have the right to interfere with that, not really.
Animals being kidnapped, from natural surroundings, to be taken and to completely unsuitable locations is crime enough, you might think, but there still exists the awful practice of animal training, forcing the poor beasts to do utterly alien things, for the amusement of humans. What can be more heart-wrenching than a bear being made to ride a bicycle or dance?
Cruelty 2
The fact that Chimpanzees in the wild are unaware of tea made bo difference to the advertisers, and wild elephants doing the conga,, however cute the image could never truly happen, yet audiences applaud these activities as harmless fun, regardless of how the animals involved feel. Would any person, with a lifespan equivalent to an Elephants and a similarly large brain enjoy being humiliated daily through performing tricks? Hardly, yet people take great pleasure in subjecting Chimps, our closest relatives biologically, to ritual humilation
Cruelty 3
Where did it come from that secretive, stealthy predators like lions or tiger s might be relaxed in situations such as circus rings, noisy spectators crowded round? Lots instances of big cats causing fatalities to people trying to train them have been recorded, but the obvious dangers are routinely ignored, but to what ultimate end?
The ignorant and brutal rape of the world around us is something humanity has done well through the ages, and the seas are just as much our playgrounds as anywhere on land. Some of the most spectacular creatures on earth inhabit the oceans, yet for so-called entertainment, it is deemed necessary to cage and train Killer Whales and dolphins.
Cruelty 4
Neither species being natural dancers, acrobats or comedians, they are nonetheless treated as such with impunity by selfish humans yet again. Dolphins are sociable and playful by nature, eager to please, and intelligent enough to learn quickly. Keeping them captive, to perform water acrobatics for us seems truly cruel, however well the creatures are treated, because we humans simply do not have the right to treat any intelligent animal in this fashion.
Cruelty 5
In many respects, whatever strange spectacle you witness, dog or bear on a bicycle to a conga line of paciderms, you will be seeing something unheard of in nature, and possibly wrong for just that reason Human wrestling elephant is such a really stupid notion, but it once happened in the name of circus entertainment.
Even if there is something exciting about watching animals perform, there are thankfully far fewer instances today than there once were, which is as it should be, because this supposedly entertaining abuse of creatures lower down the food chain should never be sanctioned. Animals ought to be allowed to live exactly as nature intended, they should. Wild and free should mean exactly that, and humanity should seek entertainment in other ways. After all, we have the brains to achieve that, all we need is the will.
