Cool Cold Fusion Breakthrough

The idea of obtaining energy through cold fusion is, some say, theoretically implausible, not one previous claim of successful cold fusion development ever proving legitimate.

Broadly speaking, cold fusion means the fusing two smaller atomic nuclei together to form a larger one, releasing huge amounts of energy in the process, and the dream of many, because harnessing it could provide cheap, practically limitless energy, without either carbon footprint or radioactive by-product.

Italian researchers Andrea Rossi and Sergio Focardi have made the claim of achieving this holy grail of physics, creating a reactor which they claim, fuses nickel and hydrogen atomic nuclei.

The process apparently starts off using 1,000 watts of electricity, reducing to just 400 after a few minutes, the reaction turning, they say 292 grams of 68 degree water into turbine-turning steam. This should, normally take 12,400 watts of electricity to achieve, meaning that the, power gain through the process is a staggering 12,000 watts.

These Italian physicists have, they say demonstrated their power plant in use, but other scientists say the method defies the laws of physics. It was in the 1920s, that Austrians Friedrich Paneth and Kurt Peters hypothesized non-radioactive nuclear reactions, since when, the theory of cold fusion has popped in and out the public eye several times.

Rossi claims to have demonstrated his so-called E-Cat device on October 28th at the University of Bologna. Energy consultants believe that any extraordinary discovery requires extraordinary proof, and the E-Cat must be independently verified by scientists allowed access to the machine.

Cold fusion apparently defies thermodynamics law, because energy needs a consumable power source and simply is not self-sustaining, though Pure Energy Systems CEO Sterling Allan, who attended the demonstration reported the E-Cat certainly appeared to be so, the output of the device enough to keep it running under its own steam.

US Naval Space and Naval Warfare System spokesman Paul Swanson vouched for the demonstration, military sources revealing this event to have been clear visual evidence that low-energy nuclear reaction devices work. In normal nuclear reaction, the resulting fission produces radiation, exposure to which can be lethal, but Rossi's reactor, containing about 100 small E-Cat machines, produces none whatever, and appears to be exactly what the creators claim, producing very cheap power in quantity, so the interest all over the world has been enormous.

His company, Leonardo Corp., plan to be producing the first commercial; E-Cat machine in the USA later this year or early next, manufacturing costs, however large, being met by a customer convined already of the benefits.

The main question of whether one will power your city any time soon is an open one, because it seems certain that military and generally secret applications will take precedence foe some years yet, but if the technology is really everything it is claimed to be, then the future of energy generation could be assured for the future, we just need to wait and see.
