Hard liners in Islam want to destroy the Pyramids like the Bamian Buddhist statues were destroyed

The effect of Mullah Omar

I recollect that some time back when Mullah Omar and his ilk were ruling Afghanistan, a decision though perverse was taken to dynamite ancient Buddhist sculptures at Bamian. Despite an outcry from the world the famous statues of Lord Buddha were razed by dynamite.

The Pyramids may be targetted

Now again an Islamic cleric has called for the destruction of the famous Pyramids of Egypt. Perhaps with the Muslim brotherhood in power through Mohammed Morsi, the extremists have been emboldened to make such demands. The hard line clerics feel that these Pyramids are against Islamic culture and must be razed to the ground. This information should not be dismissed out of hand as the hard line Muslim extremists have destroyed two shrines in Timbuktu just a few weeks back.

Destruction of Idols

The hard line Muslim clerics and terror groups have no love for heritage or culture and it will be a sad day in case the Pyramids are destroyed. It does sound preposterous, but the same thing looked impossible as well when the Buddhist statues were destroyed in Afghanistan.

Last Word

The Quran itself at various places condemns idol worship. Allah says in the Quran, "And say Truth has now arrived and falsehood perished: for falsehood by its nature is bound to perish." . This verse was recited by the Prophet (SAWS) whilst he was smashing the idols in Makkah. Mufti Muhammad Shafi, the late Grand Mufti of Pakistan, has elucidated on this and written , "According to Imam Qurtubi, this verse shows that to destroy the idols and other icons of paganism is Waajib (mandatory)."

I don't subscribe the point of views which in the name of Islam do to serve their own interests. Everything a Muslim does not necessarily be Islamic!

It is outrage for us but the Egyptians have to rise to protect their heritage. Sadly the good remain silent till it is too late. Thanks Madan for a topical post - siva

The title is what we former English teachers would categorize as a "rhetorical" question ...

A title sometimes must have a bombastic and theatrical concept to give a clue to the reader. Thank you for commenting,
