Effects of Oil Drilling in Alaska

There are positive effects as well as negative effects of oil drilling in Alaska. One positive effect is that oil drilling in Alaska can reduce the American dependency on foreign oil. Some negative effects can include devastating effects to nature. Oil drilling can be harmful to the environment. Accidents do happen, such as oil spills. These oil spills can ruin the natural habitats of a large variety of wildlife and birds. Migration can be disrupted and food supply for much of the wildlife and that in turn can cause declining populations to become extinct.

The wildlife, land, ecosystems and birds should not have to suffer from the damage that oil drilling can cause. There has to be a better way to prevent this from happening.

Millions of barrels of oil can be produced from the oil fields in Alaska. That means the price of gas for Americans can be greatly reduced. That is another positive effect that oil drilling in Alaska can have. Promotion of employment opportunities is yet another great effect. Oil drilling in Alaska can out weight the good effects because it can also cause pollution. This includes the pollution inland and along the coast. It can also cause a great increase in the population because of the employment opportunities.

Oil drilling can greatly damage and destroy the natural ecosystem. It can also destroy the wildlife and the terrain. Some oil drilling does take place in Alaska today. Huge extractions of oil from Alaska can supply the whole nation.

Another con of oil drilling in Alaska is that it can cause a decline in the Eco-tourism revenue. Drilling for oil can produce natural gas and coal that American will not have to buy from other countries, but is it really worth it to destroy the natural resources of such a beautiful place. Many people have this subject in debate. All the things that will suffer from oil drilling like land, animals, humans, ecosystems, and the list goes on. Alaska is a very serene and unpolluted region that draws visitors from all regions of the world. The effects of oil drilling can ruin it. It can take a great toll on resource and quality of life.

Many Americans are against it and some are for it. It is the negative effects that far outweigh the rest. While many Americans believe that it can help them better budget their income while having to pay for cheap fuel, but will it in the long-run when the natural resources are depleted.
