After petitions and e-mails poured in from around the world, Josee Landry and Michel Beauchamp have been allowed to keep their front yard vegetable garden.

Victory! Victoire!

In Drummondville, Quebec, Canada, Josee Landry and Michel Beauchamp, after constructing a front yard vegetable garden, were warned by the Municipal Council under threat of criminal penalties to remove it, but city authorities had no idea what they would set in motion as a result of their threat. The news went viral, and as a consequence e-mails and petitions supporting the Beauchamp/Landry garden inundated the Municipal Council.

Early this week, on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, the authorities in Drummondville announced that henceforth front-yard vegetable gardens would be allowed in their city, and they even invited the couple to help shape the city's new guidelines for urban food gardens.

Some stories do indeed have a happy ending.

Fantastic news, good work on behalf of all who signed petitions, it proves that the voice of the people is heard, at least in Canada anyhow.

I still think a 6' surround fence would be beneficial, not only to protect the vegetable from passing dogs wishing to void on the tomatoes, but also for the neighbors to plaster their comments on it.

Easy to say, Steve. Hard to prove. How would you know if the neighbors rallied around?

Because it was reported that they did. You're beginning to sound like the grinch who stole Christmas. Dismantle the sourpuss.

Oh really, Steve! You definitely sound like a high-handed moderator who resorts to personal comments when you run out of facts." You state, "It was reported they did". I say, I have not seen any reports from neighbors. Have you?

This is a well deserved victory. I am glad to see that we have done our part in rolling back senseless bureaucracy.
