Soccer - Opening Day
Today is opening day for our local soccer team - the Philadelphia Union. A brand new stadium, built last year, opens its doors today for a four o'clock game. The weather is warming up and should be a beautiful day by the Delaware River.
The Philadelphia Union, in 2011, won seven of their home games and four of their away games and scored a total of 48 points. Only two teams in the Eastern Conference scored more points - Sporting Kansas City and Houston Dynamo.
PPL Park holds 18,500 seats and is a major league soccer stadium. We are so lucky to have it in this area and most of the games are completely sold out. One of the owner's of the team was heard saying - "We should have built a larger park." Indeed, plans are under way to add additional seating to the park.
Some fast facts about the stadium are:
World-class waterfront stadium located just over fifteen miles from Center City, Philadelphia
•Stadium capacity of 18,500 for soccer and 26,000 for concerts, with seating as close to the field as FIFA regulations allow

•Expansive grass areas and large promenades surrounding the stadium for tailgating and outdoor music festivals
