Money Equals Happiness? Finding what really makes us happy in this life

When we think of happiness, most of us probably imagines being in a tropical island destination with the ones we love, having no worries or responsibilities at all or something similar to that scenario. Having extravagant cars, houses or other items while they are nice, do not enter into our minds immediately upon thinking about what pure happiness would be like for us.

Keeping that in mind, for most of us then it seems as though happiness is really something simple at its very core, and yet so many of us seem to view attaining true happiness as next to impossible.

At some point along the way, we have forgotten what truly makes us happy and have replaced it with the idea that buying designer handbags, fancy cars and having the biggest house on the block is more important. But all that has done is caused our lives to become more stressful and meaningless.

Money is necessary in our lives in order to achieve happiness, but money is just a means to an end. It should not be the main source of our attention as it has become for so many of us. For some of us, what may have started as a quest for happiness, has turned into a life of greed and coveting and in the end those actions leave us with nothing but regret and despair.

The United States is by far the wealthiest country in the world, and yet we are only the 13th happiest country in the world. This dichotomy should not be so!

As a society I think we all need to take a step back and re-evaluate our lives and the decisions we have made and will make and think to ourselves, is this what really makes me happy? Chances are that they aren't.

Starting today, why don't we do something to change that? Perhaps we finally find and achieve our true happiness and make the world a better place in the process.
