These are a couple of verses from one of my poetic hours, about the glory of nature and the natural world of my dreams.

Natural Wonder/ The Dreaming

Natural Wonder
Looking out onto my garden, I feel pleasure fill my mind
Watching as the birds appear, for the food they know they’ll find
Goldfinches, so bright and cheerful, pecking at the niger seed
Ever watchful, ever fearful, caution ignored in their greed

Robins flaunt red breasts loudly, shouting out that they are there
Bluetits swoop to snatch some peanuts, flying in without a care
The garden is alive with birdsong, every bush shakes with their motion
Hopping in between the branches, happy with my strong devotion

There is nothing half as wondrous as the natural world at play
Birds competing for the food they need to see them through the day
All those colors, all those feathers, all that truly glorious noise
the tweeting and the birdsong, nature’s truly glorious voice

The true joy of natural wonder, like the magnificence of trees
Is in the fluttering of the butterfly wings, the buzzing of the bees
The smell of those sweet roses, the taste of home-grown fruit
Seeing ducklings swimming, chicks at play, so tiny and so cute

Nature is about the simple things, the worry and the strife
The trials and tribulations of that phenomenon called life
She is beauteous, ugly too, but never need you doubt, or ponder
That she will always fill you with an endless sense of wonder
The Dreaming
Every night, as slumber claims me, in my mind I reach a place
Where nature is the queen of all, a potent mix of style and grace
Her timeless trees, tall and majestic, shade the much be-flowered glades
Where small creatures, safe and fearless, frolic, having fun in spades,

Here there are no dark invaders, raping wantonly this virgin land
For nature has excluded humans, preferring to see that the land
Is left to those glorious devices where animals and birds play their part
Lending glorious music to the forest, acting as the beating heart

Here I am, a rank intruder, peeking guiltily at the wondrous sight
Of nature being left to share vivid greenery and great delight
Here no species is endangered, there is never any need to take
that which is not needed for life, nothing removed just for the sake

of satisfying some collector, or simply letting countless visitors stare
at creatures cruelly denied their freedom just to say you have them there.
My dreaming state is wonderful, with no destruction wrought by man
Nature providing countless breathless wonders, as only she can

The sad thing is that I must wake, and once read the latest awful scoop
Of Tigers killed for the aphrodisiacs trade, sharks slaughtered for making soup
I long each day for night again, and often spend the evenings scheming
Of the things I look for, in my mind that night, as I lay there dreaming.
