Tanya Clarke and her inspirational Liquid Lights

Venice, California, USA, is the place where one especially beautiful, and very inventive lady is based, doing pioneering work of amazing simplicity through recycling. Daughter of famous environmental activist Tony Clarke, designer Tanya Clarke, runs a personal campaign, increasing awareness of water resources, recycling at the same time, by using the old to create the new

The setting up of her company, called Liquid Light, was her biggest campaign contribution, a manufacturing concern, through which she creates, and provides artistic light installations, using old plumbing hardware married with L.E.D.s, creating uniquely designed, and custom-built light fixtures for a range of discerning customers. So committed to environmentalism is this girl Tanya, that 5% of money from sales goes towards the funding of global water education, action and justice issues that others pursue..

Stunningly beautiful creations, crafted, almost unbelievably, from salvaged plumbing fixtures, the hand formed glass drops, which are the light part, are sculptures in their own right, and quite lovely, but these works by Tanya really come into their own when power is applied to them.

Intended to be visual reminders, to all who look, of j how rare and precious water actually is. In fact, if all the water on earth were contained in a five liter jug, only one TEASPOONFUL would be the fresh water on which all life depends. Pause for thought, is it not?

Eerie and ethereal, these glorious light fixtures glow with an environmental consciousness all their own., bathing onlookers in soft tones reminiscent of the water they represent. Art and function in fused states lay at the heart of these imaginative creations, though completely in tune with ecological design spirit. These functional beautiful works of art are testament to the simple fact of their encompassing all that makes green design great, thoughtful and cleverly designed, with awareness of environmental impact uppermost in the mind of the artist.

The evidence of environmental issues being taken so seriously is evident here, most satisfactory seeing recycling of used commodities flourishing , something that the future of the planet makes more important by the day. Some Liquid Lights in my own home would be wonderful, though affording them may be beyond me. Tanya Clarke’s Liquid Lights are stunning examples of environmental recycling having really practical applications, and to see more of them would be a real pleasure.
