This article talks about the DVI Extender. A DVI Extender is a device used to increase the range of DVI video signal transmission beyond standard distance limitations.

The Magic of DVI Extender

There have been many sorts of interfaces that were being used for the video transmission in the world of electronics. The one of the most common techniques of interfacing that was used a couple of years back was the SDI or the serial digital interface. This standard of interfacing was used particularly for the uncompressed and unencrypted means of video data through the cables. SDI used simple coaxial cables with the BNC connectors.

Lately the SDI standard of interfacing has been succeeded by the DVI or Digital Video Interfacing technique. It was also to be used for the uncompressed transmission of the video through the cable. It has three types of connectors that could be used accordingly for the nature of the video data to be transferred. Namely these are DVI-D, DVI-A and DVI-I. This interfacing standard has been accepted by many manufacturers and these days it is easy to find DVI compatibility to the devices. Here the problem which arises was the need of a simple connector that would enhance the user capability to convert the DVI to SDI converter or DVI extender that would allow extending and routing the display of computer it is connected to.

DVI extender is a perfect device that is easily available in the market under the tags of different manufacturers. This DVI extender have a capability of taking an input from a DVI-D male port as video input and the sound input from the stereo mini jack. The output from this DVI extender is an SDI. The manufacturers of Video Graphic Cards for the computers have also been using the DVI as an emerging technology. Lately the video lovers have been searching for a higher resolution that they could get easily transmitted, well in this case dual link DVI gets you an easy access to the higher resolution that is not only better than the SDI but way better that that of HDMI.

The DVI extender these days could be varying with the nature of output. Instead of an SDI as an output some other interfacing standards could also be achieved. As the DVI cable has a limitation for its quality transmission that is 15m, hence there is the DVI extender that makes the job done. The DVI extender could be used as the modules with the SC-terminated fiber optic cable for the receiver and sender transmission.
Whenever there is a need of a couple of display screens or a long distance display screens from the main video source, then the solution to this problem is only a DVI extender with suitable technological specification according to the need.

DVI extender could cost more than a grand but it is a reliable fix to the frustrating situations. It is widely famous among the media and entertainment industry. This interfacing standard has revolutionized the electronic world of other video transmission interfaces. DVI or Digital Video Interfacing technique opens endless possibilities of video transmission without the compromising the resolution or continuity.

At a cost of more than $1000, it may work quite well but represents no real option to most of the people I know - or have ever met.
Seems that if a person could afford ' a grand' for a little gizmo like this, they could probably afford to move somewhere where the reception is better :-}

DVI extenders are used a lot in "Live Event Productions." I use them all of the time. It is very convenient and needed. Its not meant to be used at the consumer level but the professional.
