Tor Tor is an Indonesian Traditional Dance from North Sumatera (Batak)

Tor Tor Obviously From Indonesia

Tor Tor is a traditional dance Batak tribe.

These dance moves in rhythm with the music (magondangi) played using traditional instruments such as gondang, flute, trumpet Batak, and others. Historically, dance tor tor used in rituals associated with spirits. Spirit is invoked and "go" to the statues of stone (a symbol of the ancestors).

The statues were then moves like dancing, but with a rigid motion. The movement is a movement of the foot (toe-toe) and hand movements.
Mandailing tribes have different names refer gondang instrument. Mandailing Angkola living in the region, Sidimpuan, South Tapanuli, known as Gondang Dua. Previously called Gondang Tujuh in three area. Only at Christmas Mandailing call it remained until now, gondang 9. It was forbidden to mention the change in the colonial period.
So, why Indonesian furious when Malaysia claimed that dance?
Sure it can be understand. Malaysia almost claimed every culture from Indonesia. Pendet Dance (Bali), Rasa Sayange (Song From Maluku), Batik (traditional textille), Wayang (traditional puppet show).
Tor tor is unique dance. You can find that dance only in Batak, North Sumatera in special events, such as wedding, or celebrating Independence of Indonesia, and always do that dance in group, Bataks never dance Tor Tor alone. Not like Bali traditional dances which are more global, Tor tor never change from hundred years. simple move, simple music background. That dance has no complex movement and music background like javanesee or balineese dances. But Those are become special characteristic of Tor tor.
Tor tor is become social dance among Batak's group people. They are dancing with happiness. You can see from you tube or another website. So for the readers, never be confused Tor tor never belongs to Malaysian, Tor tor always be Indonesian amazing arts and dance.
