Victory is Ours!

Abraham Lincoln said that “democracy is government of the people, by the people, for the people.” Honest Abe spoke those words over 150 years ago. Today, many of us have started to question whether our form of democracy truly is a government of the people, by the people, for the people. In recent years, we have come to doubt just how much influence we have on our elected officials. Then, something happens to restore my faith in the power that we wield when we stand together. Victory is ours!

The “Great 'Bama” acquiesces to the wishes of the people.

“Smoke Eaters', those brave men and women who fight wild fire have long gone without government backed health benefits for themselves and their families because they are classified as seasonal workers. Then, a few months back, John Lauer, a member of the U.S. Forest Service's, Tatanka Hotshot Crew, located in South Dakota, started a petition on Change.Org to persuade President Obama to give health care to these brave men and women and to their families. John knew that he was taking on a Herculean fight, but he also knew that it was a fight long overdue. John faced his Goliath, and won the day.

A member of Change.Org.

I am a member of Change.Org and have signed many different petitions that have won the day. I was only one of more than 125,000 people who signed John's petition. Many of us also promoted John's petition on Facebook and Twitter. Many of us all solicited signatures from our friends online, and I want to take a moment here to thank all of those that I asked to sign who did sign. We could not have done it without you. I would also like to urge each and everyone of you reading this to become a member of Change.Org and keep on top of all the urgent needs around you. Membership is free and no one will every try to coerce you into signing any petition if you do not want to. Please, at least check the site out for yourself before you dismiss my plea, “Join us, We need you”, out of hand. Click here now and spend a few minutes checking us out. Please!

United we stand, Divided we fall.

Aesop, the ancient Greek fabulist once said, “United we stand, Divided we fall.” In more modern times, it was first used by John Dickinson in his revolutionary war song The Liberty Song. In the song, first published in the Boston Gazette in
July 1768, he wrote: “Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all! By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall!”
Later, March of 1799 Patrick Henry used the phrase in his last public speech, in which he denounced The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions. Clasping his hands and swaying unsteadily, Henry declaimed, “Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.”
For the religious amongst my reader, that motto can also be found in the Holy Bible, although in slightly different words. In Mark 3:25, we read, "A house divided against itself cannot stand"
My plea then to all my fellow Americans is “Let us join hands all brave Americans and unite as one because united we can once again make this democracy a government of the people, by the people, for the people.

Do you have a cause worth fighting for?

You too, just like John Lauer did, can put the power of the Internet, the World Wide Web, to work for you. Like John, you can start your own petition circulating on the Internet. There are many different web site where you can start a petition, but Change.org is the one that gets results. Click here and start your petition today.

Great article, if a person believes in something he will be willing to stand up and fight for it, or at least put his name on a petition to show his/her support.

Democracy is in peril as it is not working. Majority elect leaders but are soon forgotten and also the promises made. It is sad we are becoming cynical. Thanks Jerry for showing us the way. I will check out Change org as I am not residing in America - siva
