Women-only bus services was introduced by one of the bus operator in Malaysia yesterday for a trial run till end of December 2010.

So What Do you think of the Women-only buses??

What do you think of the move of introducing women-only bus services? One of the bus operator in Malaysia has announced the move of women-only bus services yesterday and started its operation for a trial run up till 31 December 2010. I only heard of it from the radio news this morning, as a woman myself, I welcome and support the move with no hesitation.

The purpose of this special bus service is to provide more comfort for the women commuters and most importantly protecting them from sexual harrassment, jostling and the hassle of figthing for seats with the male counterparts during the peak hours in the morning and evening.

For the ease of travelling with young children, women are allowed to bring along children under the age of 12 with them. The additional women-only bus service will not only provide comfort for women but also free more seats for male commuters for the normal buses as many of the women have opted to ride on the special service provided for them. It is a benefit for all.

I think the idea of women-only bus service was came about after citing too many sexual harrassment cases happening in the country. To protect the women, who are generally weaker, this is a great move. I hope this will become the routine service after the trial run period.

So far the trial run only applicable in the busy Kuala Lumpur areas, hope this special service will be extended to other cities in the country if it is proved to be beneficial and practical for all.

Hmmm, I think it would be a good idea but, here in the US.
It just wouldn't be practical.
Good read.
Thank you for sharing.:)

As a short term it might
have its merits.
But the real solution to problems
of sexual harrassment lies more in proper education,
than in measures which can only
serve to further demonise men, a process that has unfortunately been a feature
in society and the media
in recent years.
