Will India become superpower

Although India is the world's second largest population and fastest growing economies in the world but majority of Indian population is illiterate and lack social infrastructure. Information technology sector is one of the sectors where India is emerging power. Before going into the discussion whether India can become superpower we have to consider certain factors.
Definition of superpower
A country, that dominates the international system and can dictates its terms and mould the events of the world to protect its interests, is superpower. It attains the state of hegemony in the world affairs. The idea of superpower dates back to era of cold war between America and Soviet Union. As both the nations were holding mighty nuclear weapons so both the nations became superpowers. Another prevailing view of the present time is there is no superpower as nations have become totally dependent upon each other and no one country is all self sufficient.
Historical background of super powers
Europe and Asia suffered heavy losses during the World War II. America and Soviet Union emerged as two mighty nations having greatest influence over the world affairs. Both nations developed their armies and nuclear arsenal in such a way that the world soon realized that the future course of world history will be decided by both these nations. Race for domination of Asia and Europe was begun. To counter the fear of other country and loss of access of traditional markets, a war between two superpowers and ideologies was also started to decide whether free market system or communist system will be the model of the world.
Potential super powers of 21th century
Analysts present four potential candidates for the emergence of super power i.e. Russia, People’s Republic of china, India and European Union. Russia may lead the race as it has remained super power in very near past and it retains most of characteristics of a superpower like a strong army, viable economy, rich in energy sources and still have heavy build up of nuclear arsenal. Some recent indications are also pointing that Russia is returning to its international arena by raising conflicts over nuclear issues with America. So Russia is back to influence the world.
People’s Republic of china is emerging economic and military super power. China has maintained a constant massive growth rate for the last decade and millions of people are being brought out of poverty. Analysts have mixed and confused opinions regarding the emergence of china. There are certain factors like limited energy supplies and raw material, corruption, social instability that can hinder china’s progress.
European Union may be the ideal candidate for rising to the status of superpower. Its positive factors include its large population, quality of life, popularity but low investment on research and development consequently effecting growth rate and budget deficit are the main areas of concern. Present America‘s political difficulties and unpopularity are making European union a strong candidate for super power.

What real big in the way of India is Indian’s mindset. This mindset also has divided the subcontinent in past. Religious extremism is present and often liberals and moderates are on the defensive so the picture is not so rosy. Many of positive points of India are also its negative points. India can lead the region by changing its way of thinking. Centuries have passed while humanity in subcontinent is suffering. To end this suffering the responsibility always goes to section of society that holds the majority. Burden of history lies on the shoulders of Hindu community and they have to take the lead. Once they are determined fate of India alongwith the region will begin to change.
