Celebrating a new anniversary of the movement that put the world upside down.

15-M movement goes into parliament

It's its third anniversary as it all started in May 2011. Students and young people started to camp in Puerta del Sol in Madrid to protest against the financial meltdown and the policy imposed by banks and financial markets on many countries, but particularly on some of the Euro zone.
On that May 2011, there was going to be regional and municipal elections and this huge protest took all the candidates by storm.
There were violent clashes between the students, supporters and the police. Yet, the youngsters achieved to stay in the square for quite few months. This urban and unusual camping was extended to all the major Spanish cities and abroad.
Three years have passed since then and this spontaneous movement is still alive and doing. Their demands are the same as the ones that they vindicated back them.
" We owe nothing. Therefore, we won't pay their debt.
" No to cuts on public expenditure.
" No to evictions".
"They call it democracy, but it is not!"
The list is long.
Three years on and the 15 M are taking part in the election to the EU Parliament.
THE 15 -M MOVEMENT GOES PARLIAMENTARY
From street riots, demonstrations and camping in all the city centre squares, the activists of this movement have decided to organise candidatures to partake in the coming election for the European Parliament. They promise nothing, because there´s nothing to promise as all the traditional and old parties do in their election campaigns, but they´re in their own right to bring in the European Parliament the demands of all the European citizens.
Many people have abandoned taking part in politics on a daily basis, believing that those who had been elected to represent them were going to defend their interests when the fact is that they haven´t. Politics are very much descredited because of them. Therefore, these candidates aim to bring illusion for politics to the people, because and as they point out rightly, if we, working people, don´t take part in politics actively and on a daily basis, someone else will do it and it´ll be against our interests.

Democracy means government of the people, by the people and for the people - but our politicians make a travesty of this noble idea as they forget those who elected them immediately after the elections - siva
