The big winner of the night at the VMAs was working in Europe - Kendrick Lamar. See who took home the updated Moonman statue this year - complete winners list.


MTV ceased airing the music video on a continual basis some years agao, giving way to the reality series, but they have continued to honour the music video with the annual MTV VMAs.

The 2015 Video Music Awards is being hosted to pop singer Miley Cyrus.

The VMAs present a moon man statue for their trophies; this year the moon man is getting a bit of a makeover with a little help from Jeremy Scott.

The gala awards event opens with a performance by Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.

Outside the Orpheum Theater Macklemore and Ryan Lewis...and Friends put on a performance that got the crowd gathered around the stage rocking.

Brittney Spears presented the first award of the night for
Best Male Video to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars for “Uptown Funk”.

The Weeknd performed under the red lights.

Rebel Wilson presented the award for Best Hip-Hop Video to Nicki Minaj for “Anaconda”.

Big and Nick Jonas presented the award for Best Female Video to Taylor Swift for “Blank Spaces”.

Outside at the block party Demi Lovato performs in her first VMA performance that included a confetti filled swimming pool. She is joined by Iggy Azalea.

Back inside the theater, Justin Bieber makes his first VMA performance in five years.

The award for Best Video with a Social Message went to Big Sean, Kanye West and John Legend for “One Man Can Change the World”. It was the first VMA for Big Sean and John Legend.

Torri Kelly performs her song “Should've Been Us”.

The 2015 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient is Kanye West. Taylor Swift presented West with his award. In his speech, West spoke extensively of the first time he met Taylor Swift six years ago at the VMAs when he jumped up on the stage when someone else's name was called. He talked about how he doesn't understand award shows and how they can pick five people with the best and have the chance to lose. ...and yes I have decided in 2020 to run for President!

Back outside, John Legend introduces Pharrell Williams who performs “Freedom” in the final performance of the block party.

The winner of the Artist to Watch Award went to Fetty Wap for his video “Trap Queen”.

21 Pilots and A$AP Rocky join forces for a performance.

The winner of the Video of the Year went to Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar for “Bad Blood”.

Host Miley Cyrus with some help from her friends closes out the show with a performance.
