The 2015 NBA Finals begin tonight as the Cavaliers visit the Warriors in a best-of-seven series.

The Warriors vs. The Cavaliers

The long awaited 2015 NBA Finals begins tonight with two of the hottest teams in the NBA the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors battling for the NBA championship in best-of-seven games. This promised to be one of the most exciting, intriguing, and publicized series since the Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers series in the 1991 NBA Finals.

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ first and last appearance in the NBA Finals was in 2007, where the San Antonio Spurs in four games swept them. Now, they have another opportunity to win their first championship in franchise’s history. The Golden State Warriors hasn’t played in the NBA Finals since winning the NBA championship in 1975. Both teams are hungry to raise a championship banner in their arena.

Two MVPs Face Off

The 2015 NBA Finals is centered on two of the biggest stars in the league. Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, the baby-faced 2015 NBA Most Valuable Player and greatest shooter in NBA history. He captivated fans with his extraordinary display of dribbling, passing, and marksmanship from the court. He led his team to a franchise-record and NBA-best 67 wins on the season in spectacular fashion. The other star is LeBron James, the best player in the NBA. The four-time NBA MVP (2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013) is playing in his fifth consecutive NBA Finals, a feat that only a few Boston Celtics accomplished. The pressure is not only for LeBron James to win his third NBA championship, but also to end Cleveland’s 52-year championship drought.

Rookie Coaches

For the first time since the inaugural NBA season in 1947, the NBA Finals will feature two first-time NBA coaches with the championship pedigree. Steve Kerr, the Warriors’ head coach, is a 5-time NBA champion, winning three championships with the Chicago Bulls and two with the San Antonio Spurs. David Blatt, the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is one of the most successful American coaches in European basketball history. As a coach, Blatt has been the Israeli League Coach of the Year four times (1996, 2002, 2011, and 2014), the Russian Super League Coach of the Year (2005), and the Euroleague Coach of the Year (2014). He won the EuroLeague championship last year with the Maccabi Tel Aviv. With no NBA coaching experience, David Blatt not only coached the Cavaliers to the second-best record in the East, but also the Eastern Conference title, their first since 2007.

Who wins the series?

This is a tough series to call and I am undecided. My head says the Warriors, but my heart says, Cavaliers. The Golden State Warriors are the better team, the deeper team, and better defensively. However, this is their first time at the Finals. The Cleveland Cavaliers have LeBron James, the best player in the NBA. I feel he wants this championship badly. It would also be a great sports story if he brings a championship to the city of Cleveland cementing his iconic status. Therefore, being somebody that often cheered for the East team, I’ll say Cavaliers in seven games!
