A Dragon Awakened?

Do you know what a dragon is? I've never met one either.

The Dragon...

You've seen it spew fireballs already. It's even killed people and laid waste to land and sea alike. The ancient Chinese described what they could not explain, but that which was terrifying and disasterous, as a dragon.

I believe one has surfaced in the Gulf of Mexico.

Through the greed that consumes the business world, the oil tycoon BP, has stumbled upon such a beast. When they decided to drill for the Deep Horizon's plunder of the ocean floor, its taste for destruction was kindled.

Whether or not the operation altogether knew that drilling on the tectonically active New Madrid fault line is of no consequence now. I personally hold BP responsible for their choice to drill in that location. They should have done their homework.

But, they stopped the oil spill that has made almost half of the gulf a complete dead zone right? They used dispersants even more toxic than the oil itself on the ocean floor and surface of the water to help in expediting the human failure did they not? Sure they capped the well they were using, but in the process have forced an incalcuable amount of pressure to compile beneath the crust.

That pressure, has spurned another leak to shoot forth from the gulf's basement. A new oil spill that is getting little attention in the area known as Mud Lake in Barataria Bay off the coast of Louisianna is shooting twenty feet in the air. Why would a small privately owned well shoot that far out of the water?

Another note I would like to cover, is the tremors. People have been feeling them all over the south. Maryland has had a minor earthquake already. Mexico has reported several quakes. I feel this is small compared to what is heading our way.

I think events have been put in motion that will see the Gulf of Mexico as the new Black Sea. The tectonic activity is trembling at its feet, the dragon tries to stand. In the early eighteen hundreds, a series of earthquakes reshaped the course of the Mississippi river and formed new lakes. Could we be heading toward something similar? Scientists are agreeing that it could be far worse than any we've seen since the Richter Scale was introduced.

And oh yea...one last thing, BP is not an American owned company.

Aspiring young author that just loves to write :) I have two books out now! 'Doing Something Right', being the most recent. I wrote primarily for my children and am sure anyone can relate to it :)

Wow! Scary stuff. I shudder at the thought of the damage and death that has already been the result of this monumental disaster...to imagine it could get worse!

It is a mess for sure. I live in Alabama. If not for our local news station, we would not know just how bad the spill has been in our state and it is still bad.
Sad how the mass media has just let this story go by, as it is still on going. Contrary to what the media have said here of late...sad huh.
I like this article, good content. Like I have done in my first pages I have published, not adding any pictures, I feel your story would hit a bit harder with some photos...just a suggestion.
