Pakistan Air Force has inducted a woman as a fighter pilot, which is a first ina Muslim country.

A woman of grit

Women are doing most things men do. As a woman I am delighted with this and one of my best friends is civil airline pilot who flies Jet Air on Mumbai – Delhi route. The last frontier was flying fighters and not many countries allow their women to fly fighter planes. Except China I don’t think any country allows women to fly fighter jets.

The Indian Air Force has I am told just permitted Indian girls to handle fighter flying, but the proposal is still in its infancy and may be a year or two before a woman fighter pilot comes up in India. In contrast the Pakistan air force is a step ahead and the PAF has its first woman jet fighter.

This brave woman is Ayesha Farooq, a Punjabi girl from the province of Punjab. Come to think of it in the sub-continent Punjabi women always lead from the front and Pakistan is no exception. Ayesha Farooq belongs to Bahawalpur and is one of the 19 women who have joined the Pakistan Air Force. She is however the first to fly supersonic fighter planes. There are 5 other girls under training but they have not yet qualified to fly combat missions. Perhaps they should be combat fit very soon.
Ayesha is a beautiful girl who took to flying and joined the PAF. She is the first fighter pilot of the PAF.

She flies the F-7 the Chinese built fighter Jet of the PAF. All thumbs up sign for her. Ayesha is a Muslim and has defied conservative elements in Islam who want women to sit at home and bear children. Thus her feat of flying fighters is all the greater compared to girls and women from the USA and UK, where there is inherent bar against their activities.

Ayesha has a fight on her hands against the Mullahs and I am mighty pleased that she has shown that she is woman of grit and determination.
