Another Right Wing Fantasy Goes Up in Smoke

The right wing in this country throws a lot of lies out there and keeps repeating them until they are believed by many. It is an orchestrated political strategy.

Right wing punduts pushing lies

Of late, President Barack Obama has been taking it on the chin from pundits on the right for going on vacation while chaos is erupting in Iraq. While it is common for every president to be criticized by the opposition whenever he vacations, the past week has seen a veritable onslaught of jabs from the right, particularly on Fox News, where scarcely a single "reporter" has failed to lambaste him for being in Martha's Vineyard, playing golf. No one, of course, mentions that he interrupted his vacation for two days to deal with the crisis in Iraq and the events in Ferguson, Missouri, before returning to the Vineyard to resume his hiatus.

The truth about presidential vacations

The chart above shows graphically exactly how much vacation time Barack Obama has taken in comparison to his recent predecessors. Will this information be enough to silence the voices on the right? Not likely.

It's never a good time for a leader to take a break - British PM Cameron has had the same problem recently - but a leader who never takes time off will not be up to the job of leading. Obama must know by now that he can never do the right thing in some peoples' eyes, so I don't suppose he pays all that much attention to the criticism.

Steve, I think there's always going to be critics no matter what is going on in the world. Maybe it's human nature to want to criticise. I'm just not sure. I think I should point out that this is just my opinion. Thanks for writing a very informative article.

Even machines have to be serviced to be effective, how much more humans.
We all need that break once in a while, specially for self and family. Nice chart Steve.

Looking at American politics from outside, I am constantly amazed at how much crap President Obama (and his family) has to face on a daily basis. I don't know very much about American politics and overseas policies have always been difficult to comprehend but as far as I can see, President Obama has done a good job so far. He would probably achieve a lot more if he had more support and cooperation.

The American way of doing politics is just so darned ODD! They make a huge fuss about who is going to be President, but then have a system that makes it almost impossible for a President to actually do anything. Their Constitutions is, in my opinion, a deeply flawed document - it was consciously designed to make it difficult for government to oppress the people, but has had the effect of rendering decision-making extremely difficult.

Here is a view from inside.
Obama faces crap because for 6 years, all his domestic and foreign policies have gone bust; he's been absconding (maybe playing golf and hanging out with buddies); he has been ridden with myriad of scandals, he's been behaving like a king; the country is 17 trillion in debt! HIs wife faces crap when she injects herself in politics with stupid programs that don't work. Obama has done a shoddy job and should have voluntarily retired because no matter what, this man cannot be impeached (it's a race thing). I'll be glad to answer any more doubts about Obama's poor performance.

I would like everyone to read Joyce's comment above because it is a perfect example of the tactics the right wing uses to smear those with whom they disagree. She uses words like "crap" (more than once). She says Obama is "absconding" and "behaving like a king." Just lots of unfounded accusations with nothing to back them up. She attacks the president's wife, calling her programs "stupid." She implies Obama would be impeached if he were not black, which is ludicrous on its face. Her whole diatribe is just throwing out unfounded accusations and name calling. Very typical of the knee-jerk, emotional, over-the-top idiocy that constantly issues from the right wing echo chamber.

Isn't there a saying that goes something like this, "you can please part of the people part of the time, part of the people all the time, but you can't please all the people all the time," seems true of all.

Abe Lioncoln said "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time."

But who was it who said that you may not be able to fool all of the people all of the time but you can still fool enough to rule a large country?!
