Astronomers State University named after MV Lomonosov, in collaboration with French colleagues created RCSED directory with information about 800 thousands of galaxies. A similar directory for such a large number of objects in the world has never been reported the press service of the Moscow State University.
"The catalog is the largest in the world for a uniform data set of galaxies", - stated in the press release of the institution.
From the catalog you can learn about the star part of each galaxy, their brightness in the wavelength ranges from ultraviolet to infrared. "That is now referring to only one directory, you can see the spectrum coming from the review SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey, or the Sloan Digital Sky Survey), as well as the results of measurements of the spectral lines, which is determined by the chemical composition of a star and gas contained in these galaxies ", - explained in the Moscow State University.
Introduced in RCSED analysis of the forms of emission lines is the most detailed and precise compared to other directory data, highlights one of the authors of the project, a senior researcher at the SAI Ivan Katkov.
"To realize our joint project to create RCSED made possible largely through the use of interdisciplinary approaches to work with large data (big data)", - adds Katkov.
Expansion of 7 billion years
RCSED planned to expand. Currently, scientists are discussing a growth path more rational: to expand the sample of galaxies, or the number and quality of data for each object.
In the near future in the catalog exactly add another 300-400 thousand galaxies from the archive Hectospec, allowing RCSED progress in cosmological scale - to a redshift of 0.7. While in the catalog are mostly similar in cosmological measurements of the galaxy redshift at which no more than 0.3. What was early universe represented in the directory while a lesser extent.
"If this sample connect galaxy from a review of DEEP, conducted a 10-m telescope named Keck in the early 2000s, it is possible to get an idea of the red shift to one objects, that is, over the last 7 billion years", - reported in the Moscow State University.
Work on the catalog was supported by a joint grant from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the National Centre for Scientific Research of France. In the earlier stages of the work was carried out thanks to the grants of the Russian Science Foundation, the President of the Russian Federation, as well as French resources.
