NBA superstar LeBron James has delivered on his promise and given the city of Cleveland a championship.

The drought is over

“I came back for a reason, I came back to bring a championship to our city. I knew what I was capable of doing.” - LeBron James.

LeBron James scored 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a 93-89 victory in Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Sunday, June 19, 2016 that clinched the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first championship in franchise history. It was the third triple-double in Game 7 Finals History. The Cavaliers became the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals and ended Cleveland’s 52-year major professional sports championship drought. This championship victory not only earned LeBron James his third NBA championship, but cemented his legacy and put him in the conversation of one of the top 5 greatest NBA players of all-time.

His performance in the final game of the Finals was beyond spectacular. He is the first player in NBA playoff history to lead both teams in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in any series. This feat earned LeBron James the NBA Finals MVP trophy.

“He was first in everything in the Finals,” said teammate Kyrie Irving, who was also sensational in Game 7. His big go-ahead 3-point field goal with 57 seconds left sealed the deal for the Cavaliers. “If that’s not a unanimous Finals MVP, he showed it tonight. … That guy led us all year. He knew what it took and how to lead us. We all just took it from there.”

“What a great night and moment for the city of Cleveland. Congratulations to the entire Cavs organization for bringing it home.” NFL Hall of Famer Jim Brown responded, who played on the 1964 NFL Champions Cleveland Browns team.

President Obama also reacted to the Cleveland Cavaliers’ championship win who stayed on Air Force One after landing to watch the conclusion of Game 7.

“What a game and what a series for the Cavs. Happy to see bring it home for Cleveland.”

The Victory Parade

An estimated 1.3 million Cavs fans lined the streets in downtown Cleveland to celebrate the Cavaliers' first NBA title, which is also Cleveland's first title in any sport since 1964. The “new city of champions” was packed to the max like never before, spilling off sidewalks into streets along the 1.3-mile parade route that took more than four hours to crawl through, concluding with a rally at Mall B.

"For some crazy reason, I feel like I'm gonna wake up and it's going to be Game 4 again," with the Cavs down 2-1 to the Warriors, James told the crowd before thanking each of his teammates one by one.

"I'm nothing without you all. I love all of y'all," James said to the fans. "Get ready for next year."

The downtown parade, with James and Kyrie Irving riding in style in Rolls-Royces, began outside Quicken Loans Arena before heading up East Ninth Street and to Mall B. The rally ended with NFL icon Jim Brown passing LeBron James the Larry O'Brien trophy, a symbolic passing of the torch for Cleveland sports icons.

Shamarie, excellent article! Cleveland is a great place to be right now! The Cavaliers are the best and now the Indians are doing great. The parade was absolutely wonderful. LeBron is such a good person. He's not only great at basketball but he gave scholarships to many children for college. I'm so proud of him. I really think he was meant to be a great basketball player which gives him the means to help so many. Life is good here in Cleveland!
