Women With Wider Waists - Beware Of Cancer Risk

Well, when the news is that nearly half the percentage of women are at risk of getting cancer, I am sure many will stop for a while to think, why, what aliments will you be at a higher risk of and what should I do now? Gone is the myth that men are the ones who have a very heavy waistline, women have proved themselves to be on par with men in this case of heavy waistlines. A recent survey confirmed that women seemed to be out beating men in having a very heavy waistline, and that 44 percent of women population in England, seemed to be on the way of risking themselves with a heavy waistline, defeating the 32 percent mark by men.

Health excerpts has advised that women should see to that they have their waistlines well under 31.5" (80 cm), while men should have it well under 37" (94 cm). Asian men have been identified not to cross the mark of 35" (90 cm).

As abdominal obese or the increased waistline due to extra fat, and recent findings in England has been linked with proximity to the occurrence of cancers in bowel, pancreas, breast and womb. These patients of obesity are also risking themselves by developing type II diabetes (attributed to stress) and heart disease.

Dr Rachel Thompson, Head, Cancer Science, WCRF, told the reporters that ratio of the waistline and body mass index, and the trend going upward in the chart for increasing waistline in England, is a sign to create awareness amongst women that this problem of obesity is one of the most common underlying factors causing cancer.

Confirming the call form WCRF with regard to measuring waistline to calculate the risk of cancer and other ailments, Dr. David Haslam, Director, NOF, encouraged the GPs to keep a watch of the waistline of their patients.
