California's "Kill the Gays" Initiative

Sometimes homophobia can reach extreme levels, as is evidenced by an initiative proposed by a Southern California lawyer that calls for executing all the gays in the state.

Mad Matt

John Welford, commenting on an article I wrote for Wikinut regarding the severity of California's drought, suggested in a thoroughly toungue-in-cheek manner:

"Presumably, because God controls everything, as soon as the wicked people of those states stop allowing homosexuals to stay out of jail or escape being stoned to death, the rains will return."

John, an Orange County, California attorney has heard you. He has submitted an initiative to be placed on next year's ballot which he euphemistically calls the "Sodomite Suppression Act," but which has become more properly called the "Kill the Gays" initiative.

If Matt McLaughlin, the attorney, can garner 365,000 signatures on a petition to get his initiative on the ballot, the law states it must be placed there.

McLaughlin's twisted mind

McLaughlin says his initiative is aimed at protecting the citizens of California from certain destruction, and he points to the Biblical tale of Sodom and Gomorrah as evidence. Sodomy is forbidden by 'Almighty God,' says McLaughlin, and thus threatens the very safety of the nation.

McLauglin's initiative spells it out - "that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method."

In his summary, McLaughlin explains that the Sodomite Suppression Act will protect California's citizens from "God's just wrath."

Under his initiative, gays would be banned from public service, public employment, and from receiving public benefits. Furthermore, McLaughlin has stated, the initiative would also ban the distribution of "sodomistic propaganda," for which he has proposed a fine of one million dollars, imprisonment of up to ten years and permanent expulsion from the state.

Isn't this a bit of deja-vu? Are we not of a sudden back in Nazi Germany in 1938?

Yes - this is extremely worrying, and No - I had no idea that this was on the cards when I made my earlier comment!

What do you reckon are the chances of this petition getting the support it seeks?

It will say a lot about Californians one way or another if this gets enough signatures to qualify for the ballot or if it fails to.

Nice post, same sex life is deviant behaviour, but certainly not criminal. Perhaps the concerned chap just wanted to make some sensational news

Who is to judge that it is deviant. As an individual with a brother who is gay and a sister who is bisexual I can tell you one is born with a particular sexual orientation , or it gets installed very early in life. It is not a choice, so it should never be termed 'deviant.'

This is shocking! I hope many Californians do not support that petition!

It probably won't get enough signatures to make the ballot, but if it does, California's attorney general says she will seek to have it removed by determining that it rises to the level of hate speech.

I gather that the attorney in question, although a member of the California bar, does not appear in court these days - which is probably just as well!

These type of people probably have repressed homosexual feelings in them, and feel guilty about it because of their religious beliefs.

I feel we are all a little gay in our way, if I could add a lighter line to this comment.

This is where the fault lies in bringing up. Another person's sexual orientation does not affect us. We do not get any pleasure or displeasure in them doing anything within their bedrooms. Our bank balances will not be affected, our children will not be affected, why should then there be such hatred towards gays, unless this is some personal dislike towards one or few, jealousy perhaps, being garbed with all that.

Gay haters, I think, are scared to death of their own homosexual tendencies.

I would love to know if it is there in animals. If animals have it, it should at least be accepted as natural animal behavior. Going to check youtube..lol

There are several species of animals that engage in homosexual behavior.
