The Cavaliers management announced on Friday that Irving will have an operation to repair the broken knee cap on his left leg in Cleveland.Clinic in Cleveland Ohio in the next few days.
The Cavaliers will replace Irving on the starting lineup with his backup Matthew Delladova. Irving had his left knee examined on Friday at the Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic which revealed a broken left knee cap.
The recovery time from a broken left knee cap after the surgery is expected to be at least three to four months before Irving can resume playing in any basketball related activities.
The Cavaliers are seeking to win their first National Basketball Association Championship in the history of their franchise which began operations as an expansion team in 1970.
Irving had tendinitis on his left knee that limited his playing time during the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Cavaliers do not have the services of forward and center Kevin Love who suffered a dislocated left shoulder during the first round of the Eastern Conference of the playoffs.
Even though the Golden State Warriors have a 1-0 series lead in the best of seven National Basketball Association Finals, the chances of the Cavaliers winning the National Basketball Association Finals has taken a severe hit. Cavaliers first year coach David Blatt will be facing the challenge of getting his players to believe they still can win their first basketball championship without Irving on the starting lineup.
