This is a popular cheat on which victims are as guilty as those ones that perform it. Is it ignorance or is it that the victims are trying to use an alleged situation for their own advantage?
Cheats that still exist
A person approaches to someone else airing a winning ticket of lottery. This person tells them that he's just won a sum of money in the lottery, showing them the winning ticket. The victims are invariably old people that seem not to remember or to know about such popular cheat. The person tells them that he's just won this prize, but he can't wait to collect it from the lottery offices, because he has to travel. The excuse is always the same one as having a long distance journey and a flight that is due within the next few hours. This person offers his victim to collect the prize for them and advance them the money. If this person isn't too mean or greedy, he may offer them a money reward for such a big favour. The victims invariably accept the deal and they walk to their nearest bank branch to withdraw the requested money. This person will leave straightaway to catch on his non existing flight not without thanking the victim for such a favour.
This popular cheat is known as toco mocho, meaning got a big prize. and as I say the victims are invariably old people that believe them and are, perhaps, eager to grab an extra sum of cash.
29 people have been arrested on these days, because of this cheat and when I read such pieces of news I always wonder why there're still people that believe them. If I was lucky to get a good amount of money with the lottery, I'd wait to be able to collect my prize and then I'd go wherever I had to go and I think that any honest and straightforward person would do just the same. Wouldn't they?
Pure ignorance or, perhaps, eagerness to grab an extra amount of money, taking on the opportunity of what the other person claims. It's a popular cheat in which the victim isn't this innocent. What do you think?
