Indiscriminate killings are going in USA. the victims are innocent Americans. Thsi problem needs attention

Lessons of the Colorado Shooting

For the last 5 decades Americca is passing through a violent phase. I think it all started with the assissination of John Kennedy, the US President and over the years the killings instead of going down have increased. In fact, I think that not a week passes without someone pulling out his gun or rifle and killing some innocent people. The latest is at Colarado where a man attacked a Fertility clinic and 3 people died. Worse the battle with the police lasted a couple of hours before the man was apprehended. Names are not important, but the incident is.

Many people feel that the problem of these killings is the unlicenced guns floating around by virtue of the 2nd amendment. I don't think so. Guns, I feel are not the problem , but the sickness that has crept into American society, where the only outllet for many people is to kill a human being. So even if guns were not there these people would devise other methods to kill fellow humanbeings. This is the harsh truth and Americans must accept some truth in this.

I will remind readers that as a lawyer I am aware that in India there are almost 40-50 million unlicenced weapons, yet no killing on this scale takes place. Yes, crime is there , but this sort of mindless killing of either school children or innoent bystanders does not happen in India. Hence the problem in America is different.

What is the problem? The fact is with a very high divorce rate and many single mothers and fathers , the fabric of family life is greatly ruptured. This is the essence of the problem. In addition weird things like gay marriages take precedence over spiritual education. In short America has lost its soul and the result is unrest in society. Police killing blacks in a sadistic manner is also part of this symptom. I am firm America has left the path of truth and god. Many will not agree with me. But what I state is what I feel. I repeat guns is not the problem , but the lack of moral fibre in US society.

I think you incorrectly state that there would be just as many killings even if there were no guns. Guns are far easier to kill people with than knives or fists.

Steve, a killer may use anything else like poison gas and contaminating the water supply. A sick soul will do anything and their mind is ingenius.

Guns are certainly part of the problem, because of the ease of using one to commit a murder.

OK - if you want to kill someone you will find the means to do so, but that takes planning, If an argument turns to violence which is not planned, it is far less likely to lead to a death if no weapon is readily available.

We have social problems in the UK, including family breakups, but our murder rate is nothing remotely like that of the United States, because we have outlawed gun ownership except under very special circumstances. Also, our police do not normally carry firearms.

John , England has not degenerated to the level of the uSA. I have been to both places frequently and that is my observation. American society needs healing.

Guns do play a part in mass killings. The tough part of democracy and freedom is they are taken as free for all - we are reactive than proactive. How to live with sort of unlimited freedom is the issue.Frankly owning guns does not make sense at all.

In India few manage to have guns but I feel those possessing them illegally should be seriously dealt with. In few countries in South East Asia, where private ownership of guns is banned, possessing one can invite death penalty.

When we lose the meaning in life then we know not what we do. Sadly many are moving to that territory lacking love and attachment. It is no more shocking to read such killings and that by itself does not bode well - siva

Siva, in north India every second man owns a gun and life there is more violent than in south. But nothing like in USA
