A Thought for the day, I look at the most used word in the English language

A little puzzle for you

I wondered how many times the WORD WORD is mentioned in this post, and this train of thought led me to think, what was the most used WORD in the English language, I use a WORD processor and WORD counter and so I can see at a glance the amount of times a WORD has been used.

Counting

This article is all about counting WORDS and so you would think the most used WORD would be WORD, as I began to type I kept an eye and the counter, and as expected it was the most used WORD, of course it all depends what the subject is you are writing about that would determine the total amount, by the time I had reached this point I checked again and I was surprised to see that the most used WORD was not WORD.

Check it out

I checked on the internet to see what was the most used WORD and my counter confirmed that the one WORD that was listed as the most used WORD was the one I had used most in this short article, without counting what do you think is the WORD I have use the most? you will find the answer below

The Oxford English Dictionary

According to the Oxford English Dictionary "THE" is the most used word in the English language, for your interest I used "WORD" 20 times and "THE" 29 times in this post or 30 if you include my Copyright notice

The word 'the' is the most commonly used word in the English language because it is one of the best words to link the parts of the sentence you are writing. How'd I do?

I knew THE is statistically the mos used word in the English language. It was something we had to discover and research for a statistics class when I was at school and I fondly remember the exercise.

As a former journalist, I was told to remove the most often used word from my articles. As a blogger, I find that small words help readers get to larger ideas and digest them better. I do, however, love that you capitalized "word" every time it appeared. Your bluff played out quite nicely.
