Free agent defensive end Antonio Smith signs a one year, $2 million deal with Denver

11 year veteran of the National Football League Antonio Smith, 33, on Thursday has signed a one year, $2 million dollar contract with the Denver Broncos.
Smith started his career in the National Football League in 2004 as a fifth round draft by the Arizona Cardinals out of Oklahoma State University.
Smith has played in the National Football League for the Arizona Cardinals (2004-2008), Houston Texans (2009-2013) and the Oakland Raiders (2014).
Smith was released by the Raiders after the conclusion of the 2014 football season on March 31, 2015. Smith's performance on the gridiron with the Raiders was not what the Raiders expected of him since he only made 20 tackles, three quarterback sacks and one forced fumble during the 2014 football season.
The weakness in Smith's performance with the Raiders defense was his inability to stop the running game of the opposing team in 2014.
The Broncos coaches believe that Smith will revive his career playing for the four time American Football Conference Western Division champions by playing in a reserve role on passing downs during the 2015 football season.
Smith as a free agent was free to seek employment with another football team in the National Football League that needed a veteran defensive lineman on their team.
Smith will be working with his former coach Gary Kubiak who was his coach during his tenure as the head coach of the Texans from 2009-2013.
The Raiders did Smith a favor by releasing him on Tuesday since they will be another rebuilding mode in 2015. Smith will provide veteran leadership to the Broncos during the 2015 football season.
