Dubai is on the edge of the Arabian desert, but despite this has some of the best golf courses in the world. I have had the fun of playing at some of the courses because of my proximity to Dubai at Abu Dhabi

Golf Courses in Dubai

Dubai has a number of excellent golf courses of 9 and 18 holes. This could be a bit of a surprise as Dubai is located on the edge of the Arabian Desert, but latest innovations and technology has spawned a number of golf courses. You have excellent Greens and overall maintenance standards of the courses are high.

Advantages of Playing Golf in Dubai

Playing golf in Dubai has its advantages as some of the golf courses are flood lit and that gives you the chance of playing golf round the clock. The courses remain open 24 hours and are serviced by a retinue of maintenance staff and caddies who are mostly from the sub continent. Playing golf at night is an experience by itself and there is every chance that you will love it.
Another plus point of playing golf in Dubai is the easy availability of golfing equipment like golf clubs-irons and woods as well as golf clothing at bargain prices. A lot many visitors from the Continent pick up these sets at rock bottom prices in Dubai.

Golf Courses

Coming to the course, there are any number of them for you to choose from, depending upon where you stay. A few of the Golf courses like the Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Emirates Golf Club, Four Seasons Golf Club, Jebel Ali Golf Resort Tower links Golf Club – RAK are worth mentioning.
My personal preference is for the course at the Emirates Golf Club. This was created by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This is a traditional golf course which has come up in the middle of the Dubai desert. The course was designed by Karl Litten and commissioned in 1988. The course is a par72 spread over 7185 yards.
In case you wish to play close to the sea the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht club can be your cup of tea. The course overlooks the Marina and the Creek. The course is functioning since 1993 and has also hosted the Dubai Classic twice..
Emirates Golf Club is the face of Dubai Golf. It has two 18-hole championship courses. Both the courses are functioning since 1989 and are state of art courses among the sand dunes.

Last Word:Islamic but Pragmatic

Dubai is an Islamic state, but ladies can also play golf. In fact there is a ladies Masters tournament held every year and the 2013 event attracted over 100 women
Dubai is now an international destination and one of the reasons to have a holiday in Dubai is the chance to hone your golf. For tourists from the West this is certainly a plus point. Coupled with good eating joints Dubai is the place for an enjoyable golfing vacation
