Award winning singer Gino Vanelli performs at the Bear's Den in Niagara Falls

It was the final night of a three night engagement at the Bear's Den Showroom in the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino in Niagara Falls, New York; but seven time Juno Award winning singer and songwriter Gino Vanelli showed no signs of boredom, tiredness, or slowing down. Just the opposite, clad in blue jeans and a white button downed shirt, the platinum record selling international star regaled the crowd with the occasional joke and told stories about making music as a youngster with his brothers, the odd thought, and meeting with Pope John Paul.

The Show

During the hour and a half show Vanelli was all over the stage dancing around and directing the band as he sang. Vanelli performed a few of his biggest hits including “Living Inside Myself”, “I Just Wanna Stop”, and ending the show with “Brother to Brother”; he also performed pieces that may not be as well known to some music fans but were well known to the house full of avid Gino Vanelli fans. Many fans even recognized the songs after only a few measures including “Appaloosa”, “Black Cars”, and “Canto”.

Montreal native Gino Vanelli now makes his home in the American northwest city of Portland, Oregon. It is from the Portland area that Vanelli found some of the best musicians for his band. Vanelli only had a seven piece band – guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, and horns – but those seven guys sounded like a big band three times the size as they played the jazz and jazz pop tunes.

PUtting it All Together

Along with his storied, Vanelli spoke about putting the show together and how he wanted to get back to the beginning – his early days of jazz and big band music. Part of that beginning was growing up in a musical family and playing the drums – which he did in the show.

After much applause, cheering, and whistles; Vanelli performed a two song encore and later Gino Vanelli met with a long line of fans and signed autographs.
