India is spending on building statues when it should be spending on river linking. In any event how is statue of one leader from one state good enough for uniting the country?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to diasporas across the world

He went to UK recently and all the time there is only one sentence that is repeated again and again. Invest in India. Invest in India for what? If they invest in India, the available resources are wasted on statues of political leaders. Is that the only way we could have paid tribute to Mr. Vallabh Bhai Patel?

Here is my thought

We could have linked those rivers, or at least started it. The amount being spent on statue would have been sufficient for buying fairly large amount of land at fair price from the farmers for linking the rivers. Then, the project could have have been named Vallabh bhai patel link, Shivaji link, Tipu sultan link, Bhagat singh link, Kamaraj link, and so on in each state. Every state has had leaders who contributed to this nation's growth. When only one leader is selected for making that statue it is likely that others are resenting Mr. Modi. By naming the links after leaders, we would pay tribute to them. We could have parks on either side of those links where holographic statues of these leaders could have been installed.

But may be Mr. Modi never heard of holographic statues

So now we will have tall statues being built by a company. The pedestal is all that people can see. How it will help the country's tourism is anybody's guess but I for one feel that nobody other than Indians really knew that man, unlike Dalai Lama, or Nelson Mandela.

A white elephant?

It can't even be argued that such an order will improve employment in the country because if it is employment that to be considered, I think river linking will employ more people.

So it is thumbs down for statue culture

From me at least. I don't know if you all fancy that culture. I guess crows and other birds are going to have cleaner places for their droppings.

I also feel that rather than statues we should institutions of excellence in Education or skill development that we need more direly.
