Profile of singer, dancer, and actor Jean Dominique

Jean Dominique

Show like “Fame” and “Glee” give television viewers an often comical look at the world of an artistic high school performer; but these programs cannot begin to convey the amount of work required for these students who must balance hours of rehearsal and practice time with their academic studies.

Multi talented performers like Detroit native Jean Dominique have lived that life and have risen above the turmoil to become successful entertainers.

For Jean it all began with the youth ntword Nickelodeon and a show called “Noah Knows Best”. What started out as a one time bit part was turned into a recurring role – the bully's henchman.

While he loves acting Jean also loves to make music and for four years he was a part of the boy band TGK. Jean says that they were a boy band who outgrew the boy stage When the boys now young men broke up in 2010, Jean stepped out on his own as a solo act who was more than just a singer – he was a triple threat – singer, actor, and dancer. While working to build his own solo act, Jean spent three years as the choreographer and tour manager for Joey Page. He has also done some choreography for child star and pop sensation Corbin Bleu.

Now Jean choreographs his own dances; as well as, writes his own Dance Pop music. When he was ready to step out on stage as a solo artist; Jean came armed with some 800 songs to choose from.

While he uses a guitar or piano for his songwriting, Jean uses a DJ and tracks for his performances.

Jean says that he cannot write about something until he has experienced it; his own childhood provided a traumatic experience that also brought about hope for others. While walking home from school one day Jean Dominique was the victim of a violent gang attack. The attack prompted Jean to establish the Speak Out Hotline where the young ones can call to report violent and illegal activities anonymously without fear of reprisal. Jean Dominique became one of only five recipients of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis Award for Distinguished Public Service for his efforts.

Jean uses his experience and talents at various schools talking about his hotline and violence and he gives a performance afterwards.

Jean has recently released his debut album – a sex sing EP he has appropriately titled “Formal Introduction”. Jean describes the album as a get to know me – an introduction piece. Jean has titled the first single from the album “Your Star”.

Jean has lived the life of a student on “Glee” and admits that he would love to be on the show. He also has his eyes set on the lights of Broadway where the triple threat becomes a single star - “Your Star”.
