This article is about the Jodi Arias trial. Jodi Arias has been found guilty of first degree murder of her ex-lover, Travis Alexander.

Brief Update

Jodi Arias, 32, has been convicted of first degree murder of her ex-lover, Travis Alexander. For those who are not familiar with the story, Jodi brutally killed Travis by stabbing him 29 times, shooting him in the face, and slitting his throat from ear-to-ear on June 4, 2008. Her trial began on January 2, 2013.

Friendship Turns To Obsession

Jodi and Travis met in 2006. Their relationship became very steamy from the very beginning, according to Jodi. She recounted to the jury about being immediately attracted to Travis upon their initial introduction. Travis worked for PrePaid Legal and was very highly respected as a motivational speaker. He was also a member of the Mormon faith. Everyone who knew Travis described him as friendly, fun-loving, caring, and compassionate. Jodi was so enamored with Travis that she decided to join PrePaid Legal as well as the Mormon faith in an attempt to be an ever-present force in the life of Travis. Their relationship was, for the most part, physical. Over time, Jodi became obsessed with Travis. Their relationship became one that was on-again-off-again. Jodi began stalking Travis, even going as far as moving from California to Arizona into the neighborhood where Travis lived. While she was there she would spy on Travis through his windows with other women. She even broke into his house and hid behind a Christmas tree to spy on him.

Obsession Turns Deadly

In May of 2008, the relationship between Travis and Jodi came to an end, or so it would seem. Text messages were exchanged between them that ended with Travis telling Jodi that she was the worst thing that ever happened to him. Of note, Travis had become interested in another woman and was planning a trip to Cancun. From that point on, Jodi set about her plan to kill Travis. On June 3, 2008, she rented a car, filled gas cans, and set out on a 1000+ mile trip from California to Arizona to visit Travis. It is important to note that Jodi had indicated to her family that she was going to Utah to spend time with friends. She spent June 4 with Travis, engaging in their favorite activity. Later that evening, while Travis was in the shower, Jodi started a "Calvin Klein" photoshoot of Travis with his camera. According to her, she dropped the camera and was called a "stupid idiot" by Travis. She goes on to describe how Travis "lunged like a linebacker" at her. According to her, Travis had been physically abusive to her on a prior occasion in which she said he almost choked her to death. She said she had seen that look in his eyes before, and that is when she had to defend herself. She states that if she had not defended herself that day, she knows that Travis would have killed her.

Crime Scene Manipulation

After Jodi "defended" herself by slaughtering Travis, she states that everything became "foggy." She claims not to remember actually killing Travis. She does not remember stabbing him 29 times, shooting him in the face, and almost decapitating him. Interestingly enough, she can recount all of their sexual encounters in great detail, dating back to when they first met. She even made tape recordings of a phone sex session. This tape was played in court and is highly graphic in nature. After she brutally killed Travis, she placed his bludgeoned body into a crumpled heap in his shower. She hastily tried to manipulate the crime scene to make it appear as if she had not been there. She even went as far as to put some clothes into the washing machine. In her haste, she also dumped the camera with which she had been taking pictures of Travis into the machine. This same camera continued to automatically take pictures which prove that Jodi was absolutely there and that she absolutely killed Travis.

Kill One Man, Rekindle Lust With Another

After Jodi killed Travis, she left his house and set about on her trip to Utah where she met up with a prior lover. According to her, she went to that man's house and engaged in intense foreplay with him. They both testified during the trial that actual sexual intercourse did not take place. After her make out session with him, she set herself back to California.

Lies, Lies, And More Lies

Travis Alexander's body was found four days later by his friends. What they found was one of the worst scenes imaginable, from bloody floors, walls, and sink, to the body of Travis lying in the shower. Jodi's name immediately was made available to police as a suspect. Practically everyone in his life had misgivings about Jodi, describing her as "off and evil." When Jodi was questioned by Detective Flores, she told quite a number of lies, at first stating that she was not there when Travis was killed, to an elaborate story that involved two masked ninjas who did the killing. Of course, Jodi's lies were not believed. She was arrested for the death of Travis Alexander on July 15, 2008.

The Trial Goes On and On and On

The Jodi Arias death penalty trial started on January 2, 2013. The trial has been riddled with drama from the word go. Jodi admitted in court to killing Travis and spent 18 days on the stand lying to jurors about Travis being a pedophile and sexual deviant, as well as hurling accusations of abuse and neglect by her mother and father. Her "expert witnesses," psychologist Richard Samuels and domestic violence worker Alyce LaViolette, proved to be absolutely disastrous for the defense. Richard Samuels incorrectly diagnosed Jodi as having PTSD and brought her books to read (an inappropriate action) and Alyce LaViolette was overly eager to buy into Jodi's claim that Travis had abused her. She did not interview others, she only went on the word of Jodi, a known and confessed liar. Confessed, because she admitted in court to prosecutor Juan Martinez that she had told so many lies that she lost track of them. Jodi has since been found guilty by the jury of first degree murder and is now waiting to see if she will receive the death penalty or life in prison.

Ninjas? Seriously she thought people would believe there were ninjas? Too funny.
I have not followed this story, been too busy with "real life" I guess.

Hi Mark, yes, she actually told authorities that masked ninjas came in and killed Travis, but spared her. I have been following the trial since the beginning February. She is truly evil.
