Kobe Bryant's 20th and final NBA season came to a close on Wednesday night.

Mamba Day

"We are here to celebrate greatness, for 20 years! Excellence, for 20 years. Kobe Bryant has never cheated the game. He has never cheated us as the fans. He's played through injuries, he's played hurt, and we have five championship banners to show for it… He is not only a great and unbelievable sports icon, but also, he's the greatest to wear the purple and gold." - "Magic" Johnson

Yesterday, April 13, 2016, became Mamba Day, a celebration for one of the true NBA greats Kobe Bryant. He was playing his final NBA game. #MambaDay became the most popular trend on Twitter. Fans, NBA legends, and current NBA players expressed their love and respect for Kobe “The Black Mamba” Bryant, and how much he meant to not only them, but also the game of basketball. Before the opening tip, The LA Lakers unveiled their contribution to the season-long series of tribute videos lauding the career Kobe Bryant. It was not only an end to an era, but to a remarkable 20-year career.

As Lakers nation, Hollywood royalty, NBA legends, former teammates, his wife and his beautiful children watched his every move, Kobe Bryant delivered an epic performance. He scored 60 points in his final game as a professional basketball player. This was the sixth time he scored 60 points in his career and the most points in NBA history by a player in his final regular season game. Kobe Bryant did so on 50 field-goal attempts to lead the LA Lakers to an inspiring and spectacular 101-96 win over the visiting Utah Jazz. In typical Kobe style, he found a way to go out a winner. Fans across the globe loved every second of it because it was one of the greatest farewell performances ever. What a Hollywood ending for arguably the greatest Laker ever!

“The coolest thing is that my kids actually saw me play like I used to play,” Kobe Bryant said. “It was like, ‘Whoa, Dad!’ I said, ‘Yeah, I used to do that.’ They were like, ‘Really?’ I was like, ‘Dude, YouTube it.’”

"Mamba out!" Bryant said with his final words to the fans.

Kobe's Accomplishment

Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest ever and his impressive body of work support that argument. Bryant is an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, and 12-time member of the All-Defensive team. He led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, and he ranks third on both the league's all-time regular season scoring and all-time postseason scoring lists. Kobe is a five-time NBA champion, the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest champion, two-time NBA Finals MVP (2009–2010), NBA Most Valuable Player (2008), two-time NBA scoring champion (2006–2007) and four-time NBA All-Star Game MVP (2002, 2007, 2009, 2011). He also won two gold medals at the Olympics.

Legacy

Kobe Bryant is the greatest basketball player of his generation. Perhaps the greatest Laker ever, Kobe Bryant is the Lakers' all-time leader in points, field goals, steals, 3-pointers, games, and his five titles are tied for the most in franchise history. He is the first guard to play 20 seasons in the NBA. His career-high 81 points against the Toronto Raptors is the second most points scored in a single game in league history behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game in 1962. Sporting News and TNT named Kobe Bryant the top NBA player of the 2000s.

Kobe Bryant embraced the villain role much of his career, but now he is leaving the game of basketball beloved. The right way to go out.

Thank you, Kobe!
