Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade, 33, will become a free agent this summer. Wade wants to receive a pay raise and a long term deal to remain with the only team that he has played for his entire career in the National Basketball Association since 2003.
The Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks are the two basketball teams that have the deep pockets to pay Wade his market value that he is seeking.
Wade was a first round draft pick of the Miami Heat in the 2003 National Basketball Association Draft out of Marquette University. The negotiations between the Heat management and Wade are coming down to the critical stages to see if Wade will sign a contract that he would be happy with to remain with the Heat until the end of his basketball career or he will be opt out of his contract and play basketball for another team that is either in contention for another National Basketball Association Finals championship.
Wade has three National Basketball Association titles as a member of the Miami Heat. His current two year contract that pays him $16.1 million is about to expire. It is possible that Wade could be playing for the Los Angeles Lakers as the teammate of shooting guard Kobe Bryant next year.
If Wade does leave the Heat to play basketball for the Lakers who are currently not in contention to make a playoff run next season, he would attract fans in the Los Angeles market to attend Lakers basketball games next year at the Staples Center which is their home stadium next year.
It is also possible that Wade would leave the Heat to join the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wade who reunite with his former Heat teammate Cavaliers forward LeBron James who was his teammate with the Miami Heat from 2010-2014.
Miami Heat general manager Pat Riley has to make a choice when free agency starts on July 1to either to pay Wade a salary to keep him on the team for the near future or decide to let him go and let him play basketball for another team so he can hire new players to rebuild the Heat for the near future.
