It is time once again for the 64th annual Lobster Festival in Scenic Rockland, Maine

Scenic Backdrop For an Annual Festival

The State of Maine greets many visitors every year. In the Summer those numbers soar and businesses bloom, in sharp contrast to the long Winter months. With many fairs happening all over the state, no one else can boast an annual celebration in a small midcoast town like Rockland can. Known as the lobster capital of the world, Rockland has hosted the Maine Lobster Festival for the past sixty-three years. What makes the location so unique is where it is seated. As one approaches this event, you can see the ocean clearly just feet away from the many tents that line Rockland Harbor Park down town. The harbor is busy with activity from fishing boats to yachts, charters, and the nation's largest schooner fleet.

Local Maine Seafood

One of the biggest attractions this festival has to offer is the main food tent which served up 20,000 pounds of lobsters last year. There are many ethnic as well as traditional American food vendors available throughout the festival. What could be better than a harbor view in beautiful midcoast Maine with many festivities all around you? Each year many locals respond promptly to the need for volunteers during the Wednesday through Sunday event which expects around 60,000 attendees this year.

Many Events Planned

As the name suggests, this local festival is centered around the celebration of the lobster and what it means to the local community in terms of pride and tradition. Many activities are offered during the five days the festival is open. There are book signers, art tents, local craft tents, and marine life displays. There are contests such as the crate race, "Little Lobster" diaper derby, and the blindfold row boat race. Other events include the Maine seafood cooking contest, adult 10K road race, and tour of the United States Coast Guard Station and rescue boats. There is also live entertainment by "Changes in Latitudes", a tribute band to Jimmy Buffet, along with other types of music featured throughout the festival. There is a little something for everyone with a wide range of events happening.

Rockland Harbor Park

Rockland Harbor Trail is a very interesting scenic endeavor for anyone wanting to know a little bit more about the local marine culture in Rockland, Maine. The trail features many historical points of interest as well as the life the harbor and its many inhabitants share every day. The Maine Lobster Festival is in the middle of all this beauty which makes this a truely unique experience for fair goers. Nice article finka. Took me back to the 1960's when I lived for a year on the Maine coast. Thanks for the interesting share.
