Michael Hussey, known as Mr. Cricket - Another great performer retires from International cricket

Last year, we saw retirement of cricket greats like Rahul Dravid, Andrew Strauss, V.V.S.Laxman and Ricky Ponting from international cricket. Recently, we also had arguably one of the best cricket players of all times- Sachin Tendulkar announcing his retirement from One Day Internationals.
Now, comes the announcement by Michael Hussey, nicknamed "Mr. Cricket" by some players(presumably because of his vast cricket knowledge) from International test cricket. Also, his omission from recently announced ODI squad in the series against Sri Lanka in a way implies that he has probably played his last International ODI. He debuted for Australia when he was already 30+ , and had already made more than 10,000 first class runs playing in Australia, and some English counties. This was because of a tough competition for slots in Australia's top ranking batting lineup, that consisted of players like Justin Langer, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting, Damien Martyn, Adam Gilchrist and some more.
He turned out to be a great asset to Aussies in both Tests and ODIs. In April 2006, Hussey set a record as the fastest player in terms of time to reach 1,000 Test runs- in just 166 days.
Also, 2006 was a great year for him in ODIs when he got the ICC's ODI Player of the Year.
He has made more than 6000 runs at an average of nearly 51 in tests and 5000+ runs in ODIs at a great average of 48+.

Hussey has also made a mark in IPL playing for Chennai Super Kings. In IPL 2011 he was the fifth highest run getter in all IPL matches, scoring 492 runs from his fourteen innings, and playing a key role in Chennai Super Kings' lifting the IPL.

Mike Hussey might not have got as much popularity as some of his fellow players like Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden or Shane Warne, yet he always placed team interests before his own and contributed significantly to the Australian cricket. Let us see whether we will see him playing in IPL this year or not?
