One of the most outspoken critics has done it again when Michael Moore calls snipers cowards. The criticism came in the form of a series of tweets further saying that “snipers aren’t heroes” pertaining to the Oscar-nominated film “American Sniper”.

Who is this controversial director?

The tweet says through @MMFlint “My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren’t heroes. And invaders are worse” In another tweet, Moore also said “But if you’re on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who’ve come 7K miles, you are not a sniper, u are brave, u are a neighbor.”

An aggressive advocate for better regulation of gun ownership, Moore had been known to court controversy with the way he expressed his disdain for reckless gun usage. This includes snipers. This advocacy was expressed in critically-acclaimed documentaries such as “Bowling for Columbine”.

Since Moore was also known for expressing his anti-war sentiments with documentaries like “Fahrenheit 9/11”, the tweets also served as a way to express his disdain over the box-office success of “American Sniper”. The film was based on a memoir written by Chris Kyle, said to be one of the deadliest snipers the US Naval Seals ever had.

It is worth noting though that he never directly mentioned “American Sniper”. Still people online reacted in the best way they could - through social media. Due to the controversy produced by such tweets, backlash was already expected. One of the earliest pundits to react was Former US House speaker Newt Gingrich. His tweet read @NewtGingrich “Michael Moore should spend a few weeks with ISIS and Boko Haram. Then he might appreciate @AmericanSniper. I am proud of our defenders.”

Fox host Sean Hannity also chimed in to react to Moore’s tweets. He tweeted @SeanHannity “Hey Michael, when snipers like Chris Kyle are saving AMERICAN lives, that would be a good thing. Even an idiot like U can get that”

Moore found a kindred spirit in Hollywood for critiquing the film. Actor Seth Rogen mentioned how the film reminded him of a Nazi propaganda film that was used in another Oscar-nominated film, Quentin Tarantino’s film “Inglorious Basterds”. He tweets @SethRogen “American Sniper kind of reminds me of the movie that’s showing in the third act of “Inglorious Basterds”.

If ever there is an Oscar-nominated project that Moore would rather support, it would be the film on the 1965 civil rights marches. “Selma”, from the name of the city with which the said march was named, stars David Oyelowo as the Christian evangelist turned civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He tweets “Try to see SELMA this weekend. Simply because it is a piece of brilliant filmmaking, the likes of which are so rare.”

I don't see snipers as cowards, they are design as defender and accurate trigger man in many tactical requirements in the battle fields. if they are cowards so are the pilots and submarine navys they are same specie of different calibers.

True naman. They just obey orders, just like any other profession.
