Mobile emergency units respond to police shot, subject shot several times at Days Inn Hotel

On this particular morning about 8:15 a.m. the 911 dispatcher sounded the alarm at Tapia station for a police officer down and shots fired at I-65 service road and Springhill Memorial Dr South at the Days Inn Hotel.

It was a typical busy morning at Tapia fire station on the morning of July 26, 2010. On this particular morning about 8:15 a.m. the 911 dispatcher sounded the alarm at Tapia station for a police officer down and shots fired at I-65 service road and Springhill Memorial Dr South at the Days Inn Hotel.

District one chief, engine 23, engine 22, rescue 18, and rescue 23 were dispatched to the call located near the 1-65 Interstate.
When emergency units arrived on the scene they were faced with a police officer that had been cut by a hatchet and shot and a suspect that had been shot several times.

The emergency medical first responders had their work cut out for them to save the lives of both of these two individuals.
The emergency first responders worked fast to stabilize both patients and the officer was taken to Springhill Medical Hospital.

The suspect died on the scene due to the gunshot wounds but the police officer did not receive any life threatening injuries and should make a full recovery.

The suspect had also murdered his mother in Pinellas County Florida on the morning of July 26, 2010 with a hatchet or sword.
