If I were to put together an all-time Atlanta Hawks starting five, I would narrow it down to these All-Star players.

The Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are a professional basketball team based in Atlanta, Georgia, that competes in the National Basketball Association (NBA). They are part of the league's Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference. They play their home games at Philips Arena.

Their origins can be traced to the establishment of the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in 1946, a member of the National Basketball League. In 1949, they joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) as part of the National Basketball League and the Basketball Association of America merger. In 1951, the team moved to Milwaukee, where they changed their name to the Hawks. The team moved again in 1955 to St. Louis, where they won their only NBA championship in 1958. The Hawks moved to Atlanta in 1968.

The Hawks currently own the second-longest drought (behind the Sacramento Kings) of not winning an NBA championship at 57 seasons. The franchise's lone NBA championship, as well as all four NBA Finals appearances, occurred when the team was based in St. Louis.

Dominique Wilkins

Dominique Wilkins, nicknamed The Human Highlight Film, is the greatest Atlanta Hawk ever. As the face of the franchise during the 1980s and early 1990s, Dominique Wilkins put the Hawks on the map with his powerful and impressive slam-dunks, and overall game. He averaged nearly 26 points per game for the Hawks and remains the franchise all-time leading scorer. On March 6, 2015, Dominique Wilkins received a statue in front of Phillips Arena. Dominique Wilkins is a nine-time NBA All-Star, two-time NBA Slam Dunk Contest champion and the 1986 NBA scoring champion.

Bob Pettit

Bob Pettit led the St. Louis Hawks to four NBA Finals and the franchise’s only championship in 1958. He scored 50 points in Game 6 of the 1958 title-clinching game against Bill Russell’s dominating Celtics, which was a postseason record at the time. He was one of the league's first superstars. Bob Pettit was the first recipient of the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award and to win the NBA All-Star Game MVP award four times.

Dikembe Mutombo

Dikembe Mutombo played center and was regarded as one of the top inside defenders of all time. He put up excellent defensive numbers with the Atlanta Hawks that earned him Defensive Player of the Year awards and several All-Defensive Team selections. A great rebounder and shot blocker, Dikembe Mutombo became well known for his signature finger waggle, which he would point in a player's direction after he had blocked that player's shot. Mutombo led the Hawks to three postseason berths in four full seasons before he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He is an 8-time NBA All-Star, three-time NBA blocks leader, and a two-time NBA rebounding leader.

“Pistol” Pete Maravich

“Pistol” Pete Maravich put up some outstanding numbers with the Atlanta Hawks, particularly in his third and fourth seasons. He averaged 26 points per game in 1972-73 and 27.7 points per game in 1973-74, his first two All-Star seasons. “Pistol” Pete was a phenomenal ball-handler and brought excitement to the game of basketball. He is a five-time NBA All-Star and the 1977 NBA scoring champion.

Mookie Blaylock

Mookie Blaylock spent seven years with the Atlanta Hawks, and is the Atlanta Hawks' all-time franchise leader in three-point field goals made (1,050), three-point field goal attempts (3,023), and steals (1,321). A great defender and known for having quick hands, Mookie Blaylock was selected to two All-Defensive first teams and four All-Defensive second teams.
