Every great sports franchise has a look that symbolizes the pride and swag of a city or hometown, which keep fans connected generation after generation. These icons are five of my favorite in sports.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees has arguably the greatest logo in sports. Designed by Louis B. Tiffany and introduced in 1963, the New York Yankees logo is the epitome of winning, sports dominance, and New York pride. It is the symbol of New York. The logo makes players, and fans feel like they are associated with the best. The Yankees have won 18 division titles, 40 AL pennants, and 27 World Series championships, all of which are MLB records.

The Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders has one of the most iconic logos ever. Designed by Al Davis and introduced to the NFL in 1963, the black and silver image of actor Randolph Scott dressed as a pirate with crossed swords behind him is the epitome of swag and a bad boy persona. The trademark logo has represented the team for over five decades, but it still looks fresh. The Raiders has won 15 division titles (three AFL and twelve NFL), 3 Super Bowls, 4 AFC titles, and an AFL Championship.

The Chicago Bulls

No NBA logo was more popular in the 1990s than the Chicago Bulls' logo. Designed by Theodore W. Drake, and introduced in the National Basketball Association in 1966, the logo has been in service for more than 45 years. The logo is a fierce raging bull whose horns are tipped with blood. The red color in the Chicago Bulls logo symbolizes passion, power, and courage, whereas the black color stands for excellence, dominance, and elegance. The Bulls is one of the NBA's greatest dynasties and they won six NBA championships between 1991 and 1998 with 2 three-peats.

The Hartford Whalers

The Hartford Whalers logo was one of the most unique and intriguing logos ever. Designed by Peter Good and introduced to the hockey world in 1979, the logo was an "H" within the whale shaped "W”, which stood out to fans. The logo almost reminds me of the luxury Maybach logo. The Hartford Whalers utilized the logo from 1979-1992. It was perhaps the finest logo in hockey history. The team won two conference championships and four division championships.

New York Mets

The New York Mets’ logo signifies the entire New York City area. Designed by Ray Gatto and introduced to the baseball universe in 1962, the logo features the New York skyline including the Empire State Building, United Nations Building, the Williamsburg Savings Bank, the Woolworth Building, and a bridge that acts as a link between the five boroughs of the city in the center of a baseball. The logo screams “New York Baseball”. The New York Mets won two World Series titles, four NL Pennants, and five East Division titles.

I've got one more for you, a logo that in my opinion is one of the most brilliant ever - the Masters. To place that pin, centered exactly on Augusta, Georgia on a map of the United States, says to everyone who sees it: "This is the center of the golfing universe."

Great article Shamarie.

I enjoy reading about the logos. I do like the Bulls and the Yankees. Especially, the history of how many titles and championships that each team earned under each logo.
