A journey of the spacecraft Dawn from a year long at asteroid Vesta now onward to reaching a dwarf planet Ceres a giant asteroid in the asteroid belt in space in three years from now.

Dawn Nasa's futuristic spacecraft.

Nasa's Dawn Spacecraft was launched in 2007 is a spacecraft that is on track to rendezvous with two celestial bodies Vesta and Ceres nestled between Mars and Jupiter that never bloomed into full fledged planets.
During its year long stay at Vesta Dawn's cameras and other gadgets abroad explored the asteroid's surface getting as close as 130 miles.A few surprises were discovered. Before the Vesta was known to sport an impressive scar at its south pole. The cause of the scar was an impact with a smaller asteroid. Now another replica is evident in the same region showing that it had another impact.Vesta has rugged exteriors which inhibit grooves and troughs also minerals like iron core. There is a possibility of this asteroid is on its way to becoming a planet.
Dawn the spacecraft has racked upto 1.7 billion miles on its journey to Vesta.Asteroids are receiving attention and there is a possibility that in the furture private companies may mine precious metals from Earth near asteroids.
After its successful journey to Vesta ground contollers received signal of Dawn's moving away and ahead on its onward journey to Ceres a dwarf planet the size of Texas. After gracefully pulling away from the Vesta's gravitational pull smoothly and easily it carried on its journey of another 930 million miles to reach Ceres by 2015.
All credit goes to the Dawn Spacecrafts futuristic engines working on ion propulsion, providing gentle but constant acceleration. This technology was a part of science fiction has become a reality of modern spacecraft. It is more efficient then the one that powered conventional rocket fuel.
At Ceres the Nasa scientists expect spherical dusty surface with an icy interior.Look out for frost covered poles is the notion. So some surprising discoveries are awaited.
So wait with baited breath to discover what the Dawn will unveil as it moves on to the next and final step.Ceres the biggest asteroid in the belt will come close in view three years hence.

Vesta image from DAWN Spacecraft.

Nasa's Dawn spacecraft took photos of Vesta, this detected hydrogen in large quantities around Vesta's equator. It is assumed that hydrogen exists in the form of hydroxyl or water bound to minerals in Vesta's surface.
Red indicates the greatest abundances of hydrogen and gray the least.
