Occupy Movement Changes Tactics, Now Sleeping on Sidewalks Near Financial Insitutions

Now that spring has arrived the occupy movement is being resurrected.

Occupying Wall Street itself

In November, 2011, a coordinated effort planned and directed at the highest levels of the American government carried out the eviction of 18 Occupy encampments around the country, from New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington and Atlanta in the east, to Seattle, Portland, Oakland, San Francisco and Los Angeles in the west, and places in between. Now that spring has sprung the movement has resurrected itself with a change in tactics. Occupiers, of all people, know the truth to George Orwell's statement that when governments become totalitarian nothing is left to them except to rule "by fraud and force," and this is exactly what is happening. As a consequence of a federal court ruling passed down Monday, April 9th, arising from a lawsuit brought in 2000, protesters are allowed to sleep on sidewalks, according to an account of the ruling reported in the New York Times, "as a form of political expression so long as they did not block doorways and took up no more than half the sidewalk."

Now the occupiers have abandoned Zucotti Park, where they were relentlessly beaten by New York's finest, and have taken to sleeping on Wall Street itself. Again, according to the New YorkTimes, "organizers...have acknowledged that it would be difficult to mount a new occupation of a park or plaza. Instead, many of them said, they would rather establish these sleeping spots. 'It takes a tremendous amount of resources to maintain a camp,' organizer Austin Guest said. 'But sidewalks are everywhere.'"

Over the past week protesters have also begun sleeping on sidewalks outside of financial institutions in Boston, Philadelphia and Washington.

I hope they have a supply of blankets. How about their days? I expect they are handing out flyers while the cops hand out tickets.
