Thoughts on the Pistorius ruling finding him guilty of culpable homicide rather than murder.

Pre-sentencing thoughts

Like many other people, I followed the Pistorius trial and ruling, although I thought he was guilty of murder. I was disappointed by the Judge's decision, but understood her reasoning. Maybe the prosecution blew it. I didn't hear the whole trial, so I am now wondering how Oscar explained why Reeva had locked herself in the toilet if they were sharing a bed. It struck me that she was running away from him. If this were so, he'd probably be guilty of the murder charge, but without premeditation. Since he was the only witness, and not a good one, I think that the judge could have put less credence in his report of the aftermath. Once he confronted her dead body, he probably did all the things that he testified to doing. In Israel, men kill their wives every month, and generally turn themselves in. The fact that he called for help and expressed remorse doesn't change it that he lost control of himself and shot four bullets through the door. The only real question is when he made up the story of the intruder. In his testimony he said that he went to the balcony to bring in a fan. It was hot that night. When he saw an opened window next to the bathroom, it was still hot, so why shouldn't a window be opened? Rather than searching through a zillion phone messages, the prosecution should have taken his story apart. Eventually they would have caught him in its fabrication.
