Restricted free agent Will Allen signs a one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday

The Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday have re-signed to a one year contract safety Will Allen, 32, who is not to be confused with former New York Giants cornerback Will D. Allen, 36 who was arrested recently for running a $31 million Ponzi scheme to former football players.
Allen as a restricted free agent could have signed a contract to play football for another team in the National Football League but the Steelers had the option to match the contract that any other football team offered Allen to play football for their team.
Allen started his career in the National Football League as the fourth round draft choice of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2004 NFL Draft. Allen played six seasons with the Buccaneers before he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to the start of the 2010 football season.
Allen played football for the Steelers for three seasons before he signed a contract a one year contract with the Dallas Cowboys before the start of the 2013 football season before the Cowboys released him on October 8, 2013 when he returned to play football for the Steelers during the remainder of the 2013 football season.
Allen started four games for an injured Troy Polamalu, 33 during the 2014 football season. Allen is one of the most valuable players on the Steelers roster since he can play as a defensive back and the special teams of the Steelers.
Allen will be competing against seven year veteran Mike Mitchell and third year player Shamkaro Thomas during the 2015 training camp sessions to replace Polamalu as the safety in the 2015 football season.
Allen will also serve as a coach on the field as well as the mentor for his Steelers teammates who are the defending American Football Conference North Division champions during the 2014 football season. The Steelers ended the 2014 football season with a record of 11 wins and five losses before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the American Football Conference Wild Card playoffs.
At the end of the 2015 football season, Allen will become a free agent.
