Preparation Before a PSU Interview
The GATE 2017 results are out and the candidates who have managed to bag qualifying scores now have a number of options and opportunities available to them. Besides the numerous opportunities for PG and PhD admissions, a number of students are more interested in PSU recruitment. There is time to prepare, so here’s what you should do.
Preparation Before a PSU Interview
A number of PSUs like NTPC, ONGC, BPCL, HPCL, etc. conduct a GATE recruitment drive every year, and more and more companies are joining in this practice. Even this year, companies are to announce their shortlisting criteria.
The GATE 2017 results have already been announced, and applications to a number of PSUs are open. However, most companies will be shortlisting candidates and beginning their interview processes sometime in May. Even if you have managed to get good GATE 2017 results, they will not suffice until you are able to crack the interview rounds. Here are some tips that may help you:
Preparing for the interview:
1.Read about the company, do a Google search, visit their website, read the newspapers, etc.
2.If you are applying for a number of PSUs, make a checklist in terms of preference, just in case you later have to make a choice. This will save you a lot of work later if you are shortlisted and need to give a decision.
3.Go through the PSUs HR policy and know about the career path you will be taking if you join.
4.Understand your pay package clearly. Find out about the perks, the CTC, as well as the in-hand salary
5.Make sure your resume is impressive. Do not lie on your resume, but mention all your strengths and achievements, including your GATE 2017 results.
Things to Remember:
1.Brush up on your technical subjects
2.Make sure you are up to date with what is happening in the world and about current affairs. This is also important for group discussion rounds.
3.Be prepared for the common interview questions (which might not seem as important right now) – Why should we hire you, why this company, what are your strengths, etc.
4.Make sure you are well groomed for the interview
5.Carry all the required documents (general list mentioned below) including your GATE 2017 results.
6. Be on time for the interview
7.Do not fidget or get stressed, stay calm and confident. Treat the interview like a conversation but also do not get too casual.
Make sure you carry all the required documents, even if you don’t need them in the end, it’s better to be prepared. Also, carry a set of copies of the documents as well.
